Teria Taylor, known to her readers as A’Driana LaFaye is excited to continue her contribution to the literary world. As a life-long avid reader, she found inspiration to become a writer from seeing her favorite authors bring life into their characters. After honing her craft for over 18 years, she published her first book Tryals & Trybulations in 2018 and looks forward to sharing much more of her talent in years to come.
What inspired you to become an author?
I realized that everyone experiences trials and tribulations in our lives; some people hide it better than others. Whether it be with finances, abuse, depression, alcoholism, low self-esteem, etc., we all have a story to tell, and I enjoy shining a spotlight on it. These issues affect so many people in various ways, and not everyone responds the same way. I get to share my perspective on the outcome.
Tell us about your first book:
My first book is titled Tryals & Trybulations. It tells the story of Danita, who has experienced verbal and physical abuse as well as sexual assault and how she’s overcome it. It also follows her children, Germaine (conceived from the sexual assault), Chris (possible alcoholic), Anthony (doesn’t realize his marriage is falling apart), and Marie (life gets turned upside down). As if that wasn’t enough, Danita will face the impossible decision of telling Germaine that the father he’s known all his life is not his biological father. Will she let her son in on this secret she’s held onto for so long? Or, will she keep it to herself, taking it to her grave?
What will readers gain from it?
I believe readers will be able to identify with the characters, whether it is themselves or someone they know. Did they react the same way? Would they have done anything differently? I hope to get people talking about the fact that even though people may seem to have it all together in public, you never know what they are facing behind closed doors.
What advice would you share with anyone that is fearful of starting their first book?
I understand because I’ve been there! Listen, I believe we all have some form of fear that keeps us from being great or doing what God has placed in us to do. My advice would be to believe that you can do whatever you put your mind to, no matter how big or small. You must trust that even if you get out there and fall, God is right there to help you up. You must be willing to get up, dust yourself off, and try again. Please let today be the last day that fear has a place in your heart!
What’s next for you in 2020?
I do have quite a few projects coming up in 2020. I will host a focus group in January for a few of my readers who have read Tryals & Trybulations. I will be one of several co-authors in an upcoming book by Lillie Mae titled, The Glambitious Guide to Winning in 2020. I also plan to be a vendor at one of the Small Business Summits in Atlanta. I’ll be a panelist at the All White Brunch at Essence Fest in New Orleans as well as a panelist at the Atlanta Glambitious Expo. I’m currently working on Tryals & Trybulations II in hopes of releasing by the end of 2020.
