Netflix is allowing independent films, television series and other projects to air their projects online!

Many of our favorite documentaries and short films are written, produced and even directed by African- Americans!

Some great films that are on Netflix include The Preacher’s Son (2017) starring Christian Keyes, Clifton Powell and Valarie Pettiford, Naked (2017) starring Marlon Wayans and Regina Hall, Dear White People (2017) with Logan Browning and Rapture (2018) with Nas. And the list continues, adding greater black films and documentaries to Netflix!

Michael B. Jordan is no stranger when it comes to the acting scene. He’s so hot in the entertainment market right now, working behind the scenes that is with his production company Outlier Society Productions which was launched in 2016.

Other films under his company is an untitled series on OWN and the reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair starring Jordan.  A new tv series, Raising Dion is coming to Netflix which is actually based on the short film and comic book by commercial and music video director Dennis Liu.

So why not take it a step further and make it into a full-blown series?! It has a straight-to-series order from Netflix itself. Raising Dion is about a mother named Nicole Reese (Alisha Wainwright) raising her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband Mark (Michael B. Jordan.) He starts to manifest several magical, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must try to keep her son’s gifts a secret, with the help of Mark’s best friend, Pat (Jason Ritter,) and protect Dion from antagonists.

The one-hour long series is set to be released in 2019. Will you be tuning in? Let us know in the comments below!
