Liberian-American, Naomi Nucia Glay is a woman of many hats. Not only is she Miss Liberia USA but she is also a model, speaker, and event curator! Glay is passionate about using her platform in order to bring awareness to women and children who have been impacted by sexual abuse. We sat down with the queen herself to discuss her platform and her upcoming event that will take place this summer!
Why are you so passionate about her platform, which is sexual assault again women and children?
My platform is to raise awareness for women and children who have been impacted by sexual abuse. I’m passionate about sexual assault because it’s the story of my life and other young children, women, and men. I’m a survivor. I’ve experienced the long-lasting traumatic effects it has on ones being. My purpose on this earth is to enlighten and give hope to others.
Can you give us any information on the event that you are planning later this summer?
It’s the 2nd annual Power Talk. Power Talk panel is an open transparent roundtable discussion. This Power Talk is about the uncomfortable topic Sexual Abuse/Assault. The panel consists of advocates and survivors who bring a supportive and caring approach to explore all options and rights through empowerment and discussion. The event will give the wounded the opportunity to leave healed. Give voice to our silence and strength to our weakness. Many of us go through trials and tribulations but are never given the chance to speak about what our past entails.
What can attendees expect to see or take away from this event?
Topics of discussion include:
- Healing- Triggers- Legal Process- Support- Painful secrecy
- Survivors will give you direct insight into their lives
- Know your legal rights
- Find out how and where to get help
- Q &A
Where do you hope to see yourself in the years to come?
Honestly, I see myself like Auntie Oprah Winfrey. A speaker, actress, author, philanthropist, and tv host. Her testimony is similar to my own in so many ways. I see Power Talk being a household name.
