Monica is a newlywed, and honey, we have questions. I wholeheartedly respect the notion that celebrities get to live their life in private just like the rest of us, but what happened to her and Shannon Brown? Shannon Brown, a former professional basketball player from Maywood, Illinois, played for the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for the team for a short time; he also played for the Heat and the Knicks. In 2010, when Monica and Shannon’s black love story began, we all swooned over their large, extravagant wedding, where the couple looked amazing in their elegant, all-white attire.
Monica did what she does best, gliding down the aisle with that signature confidence, flaunting her fitted gown with a grand bow, with a ruffled train that followed gracefully behind her like they knew who was in charge. Shortly afterwards, Monica gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Laiyah, now 12 years old. Adding to her the boys Rocko and Romelo, Monica shares with the rapper, “Rocko.” The couple looked very happy for years, and their blended family pulled at our heartstrings, until it didn’t. Rumors started to spread, Monica was releasing music that no longer rhymed with love but with signs of letting go, and fans of their love story started to assume, “they must be getting a divorce.” The couple announced they were officially parting ways in March of 2019.
Out with the old, in with the new. Over the years, Monica stayed private when it came to her love life, though she debuts her time and dedication she gives to her children. She continues to show resilience despite her divorce, and women all around admire her ability to continue to boss up in her music and fashion. During the time of the divorce, even when hearing the whispers and harsh words, Monica always kept it classy, showing her fans that her unbothered mentality is, in fact, her way of life. Now, recently, fans started to notice that sis is smiling differently. Wait. Who is this? Oh, it’s just her new boo, Anthony “Ant” Wilson. Anthony Wilson is a music mogul. He is a man who wears many hats, from managing music icon Chris Brown, discovering the Tycoon Music Festival, and serving as the executive producer on the hit TV show BMF. Monica and Ant have been long-term friends for most of their careers, and in 2023, they started to make public romantic appearances after years of keeping things low-key. I think that I can speak for all fans when I say we are hear for it! Sis deserves to be happy.
Now, about this courthouse wedding photo that has everybody talking. Monica looked stunning, sporting simple black elegance. However, let’s not sleep on Mr. Wilson; he did not come to play in his creamy coral tuxedo. The couple reveals on August 4th, per Instagram in the comments, “S/O to everybody at the courthouse that got us in and out without a problem.” Then Monica responds to Anthony, “They were amazing.” What the real talk is about is does this clearly states that the two tied the knot? I suppose we must all stay tuned to find out.
