College friends Shane Foster and Davis Chris met on campus in the recording studio at The Los Angeles Film School and have been rocking out in the entertainment industry ever since. Between their company DFD Music, a recent music deal with Empire, and other various projects in the industry, the music producers are on the move and ready to make things happen!

How difficult it is to run a business during COIVD -19? How do you manage your time?

Running the business has become easier without having to go out and about to get work done and face to face. Everyone is at home and now is an awesome time to put out great music and have a media deal. This has also allowed us to put the maximum time in achieving lifetime set goals personally and business-wise with DFD Music.

Can you tell us more about your company?

Unique story about us is we both met the first day of college and discovered we were both veterans. We were the only ones out of about 200 people that walked down to the free state of the art studio the school offered trying to set it up to record…and we’ve been rocking out ever since.

We formed DFD Music in 2016. DFD Music consists of a Production Team that makes music for the everyday listener’s ear. We also offer artist services like Music Business Consults which offer independent artists an in-depth career analysis to provide an overview of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as an independent artist within the independent music community.

We assist you by tailoring our services specific to your needs. From production recording mixing and mastering services to marketing and promotion services which include all digital platforms or whatever fits in artists’ budget.

What’s your musical background, if any?

We both have bachelor’s degrees in Entertainment Business, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude and combined additional degrees in Music Production, Audio Engineering and Legal Studies. Davis Chris also interned for Grammy Award Winning Production team the Stereotypes and Grammy Award Winning Songwriter Detail. Shane Foster interned for Def Jam/ EP Entertainment and LiveNation/ Ticketmaster.

Are you affiliated with a label?

We recently signed a non-exclusive distribution deal with Empire!

Have you ever dreamed of being where you are today? What contributed to your success the most?

Always knew we would be successful no matter what we put my mind to. Serving in the military contributed the most to our success. It taught us organizational skills, teamwork skills, problem-solving skills, and selfless service skills. Also, I implemented lifelong skills of being productive, good communication, mental fortitude and never making excuses.

Have you received any awards or nominations?

We recently had a record called “Things Change” chart on Billboard Gospel Songs at number 8 for the week of Aug 1, 2020.

Do you have any favorite artists you worked with?

Our favorite artists we’ve worked with are BeatKing & Yo Gotti.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Be prepared to do a lot of free stuff. Put in the necessary 10,000 hours to perfect your craft. We would tell them to understand the concept of delayed gratification and also learn how to stand out and be as unique as possible. Set achievable goals for what you want, develop and execute a plan to achieve them.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

We like to work out, watch sports, and research past and current musical trends.

What is the message you would like to share with the world?

Faith in yourself will go further than anyone’s opinion ever will.

What’s next for you?

Next is a new Latin Single featuring Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Natalis Ruby called “Cha Cha.” We also have a blues EP on the way as well.

These two talented producers from DFD Music are definitely on the move. Their recent music label deal with Empire, exciting new music, and management of a successful entertainment company indicates that these two college friends are the real deal and are ready to make things happen in the music industry!
