Who is Necoya Tyson at her core?

Necoya is an ambitious, fun-loving, high energy person who absolutely loves people and making them feel better about themselves.

Why are you so passionate about helping others get healthy?

I think that we are no good to others if we don’t take of ourselves. You can’t continue to pour into everyone else but not pour into yourself. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.  

Tell us about your businesses?

I started All About You Event Management in the summer of 2009. It’s a wedding and event planning business that focuses on weddings, social functions, and corporate events. We’re based in the DC area, but my team services events anywhere that we’re needed.

We recently launched Mornings Are For Mimosas, a wedding workshop series for brides and grooms to help them get started in the wedding planning process by teaching them how to create a budget, choosing the right vendors for their wedding day and the importance of hiring a wedding planner. This workshop is in four different locations each year.

Where do you see yourself in the next 2 years? 5 years?

Two years from now, I’ll be 39 years old so I see myself truly enjoying life and preparing to celebrate that milestone birthday of 40.

Five years from now, I see myself teaching Mornings Are For Mimosas around the WORLD!

What’s next for Necoya personally? 

I’m planning a fabulous vacation to Montego Bay Jamaica in the Fall. I’ve never been there let alone a tropical vacation. I’m really looking forward to it!

How do you handle setbacks?

I’m the type of person who will be angry/upset/sad for a very short period of time when faced with adversity. However, after about an hour or two of that, I get back on my grind. I ALWAYS take a look within to see what part I played, what I could’ve done (or said) differently and take it from there. I continue to remain positive and upbeat in any situation because it can always be worse. My motto is “Everything is fixable.”

What is the greatest lesson that you have learned in business?

Don’t be afraid to be collaborative and be a partner to those in this industry. This is not a competition at all. There is enough business out there for all of us. I can’t service everyone so I love recommending potential clients to my fellow planners that may be a better fit for them or have the availability.

What advice would you give to that person who’s business is not doing so great and wants to give up?

PLEASE don’t give up. Take the time to look within yourself and your business (particularly processes and procedures). Review what you think is going wrong as well as your successes. Most times all it takes is some reassessing and revamping of things that you currently have in place.

What does it take to have a successful business? 

It takes the following: drive, ambition, determination, willingness to learn, and being okay with hindrances (and learning how to bounce back from them).
