A couple of weeks ago hip-hop artist and model, Nicki Minaj, went on a higher education donation spree, helping fans and followers from all over the country pay off their college tuition and student debt, as well as purchase materials for their classes. Twitter users stumble across her account thinking it was a joke, but receipts and student account summaries showed that Minaj was playing no games. But her charitable heart did not stop there, on her Instagram this past week, she revealed that she has been secretly sending money to a village in India, via her Pastor Lydia Woodson-Sloley. The “No Frauds” singer posted a video [see below] that shows a man pumping water out of a well, thanking Pastor Lydia, board members, and others involved in raising funds that have helped a secret village in india set up reading programs, provide a computer center, a tailoring institute, and clean water.
This is the kind of thing that makes me feel the most proud. The money I've sent to this village in India for the last couple years [via my Pastor Lydia Sloley], has gotten them a Computer Center, a Tailoring Institute, a Reading Program and 2 WATER WELLS. We complain about the most ridiculous little things when some ppl don't even have clean water. Blessings to India. Our work is far from done. I'll tell you guys more about my charity work in the near future in case you'd like to be a part of it. Love??
In another post, Minaj wrote, “I’m so proud of our sisters in India. God is so good. Their desire was to have water wells & places where they can worship, places where they can learn technology, computers, reading, etc. We’re just getting started. These women are us and we are them!” The Queens native is using her influence to show her followers and the general audience how to remain humble and prioritize helping others who are in need. She plans to reveal more information about her charity in the near future, but for now she’s inspired us to be a little bit more charitable in what we do on a daily basis.
Besides being a philanthropic queen, the singer opened up the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night in Las Vegas with Lil Wayne, David Guetta, and Jason DeRulo and was recently featured in Katy Perry’s latest single, “Swish Swish”.
