Anna Burns is a certified derma-technician who is using the beauty trend of permanent makeup tattooing to provide 3D areola tattoos for breast cancer patients to give a hyper realistic appearance of nipples on their breasts. Burns gives hope to breast cancer survivors as a final step in their healing process. Doctors often cannot restore breast cancer survivors’ areola, but Burns uses her highly skilled artistic beauty approach as a remedy.
How long have you worked in your profession? What made you choose this field?
I have been in the Permanent Cosmetics industry since 2013. My mother in law is a breast cancer survivor. After witnessing how my mother in law was positively impacted by her nipple tattoos, I chose this field. Her experience inspired me to help women regain their confidence by restoring their sense of normalcy through the healing art of areola tattooing.
Where did you grow up? Did you always know that this was something you wanted to pursue a career in?
I grew up poor in Manila Philippines. I came to the United States as a teen with new hopes and dreams. I attended art school in college but I never imagined I would use my art skills and knowledge in a healing manner. In ways that help women, and to some degree men, regain their confidence and have a new sense of hope.
What is the story behind your passion for helping Breast Cancer Survivors?
My mother in law, who is my close friend, received her nipple tattoos a few years ago. Seeing how this changed the way she viewed her body in the mirror every day inspired me to use my artistic talents to help women complete their breast reconstruction and help them take their final step in their breast cancer recovery journey.
What has been the most rewarding part about what you do?
The most rewarding part is seeing how happy my clients are after they see their newly tattooed nipples. I am happy because I have given them a new sense of hope and the gift of confidence.
What other services or consultation do you offer customers?
I offer scar camouflage, skin rejuvenation and scar revision treatments, micro needling, tattoo lightening, scalp Micropigmentation, eyebrow, eyeliner and lip tattoos.
What upcoming events do you have?
I have a New Year New You event coming up in January. The skin is the first thing people notice when they look at our face. This event is about keeping your skin looking young and how important it is to take care of it.
