Pharrell Williams has just assisted in making history in the state of Virginia.

The Virginia native, joined governor Ralph Northam Tuesday at a press conference to propse the idea of making June 19th – the day that the Emancipation Proclamation was signed an official holiday.

Virgina would be the second state in the history of the United States to refer to this day as a holiday – Texas was the first.

In the press conference, Pharrell said, “This is our chance to lead, to truly embrace the importance of Juneteenth and to treat it as a celebration of freedom that Black people truly deserve.”

Gov. Northam stated that all state employees would be given a paid day off in order to celebrate the holiday.
