He’s hilarious, one of a kind, and truly humble. Ken Butler became a cast member of Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian Season Two and people just can’t get enough of him. Butler has even gained his own group of fans that the internet calls Ken Dolls. Within the first few moments of speaking with Ken, his positive energy shined brighter than we could’ve imagined. Sheen Magazine spoke with Ken to dig deep into just who everyone can’t quit buzzing over.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and what it was like growing up in Philadelphia?
Well, to start off, I’m a blogger and it was honestly rough for me growing up in Philly because I had to take care of myself and my mother. Eventually, I ended up in the foster care system and my mother went into a nursing home. From that point, I always struggled with homelessness. I was homeless my senior year of high school and since then, I have worked extremely hard to get to where I want to be. While in school, I was in about seven different afterschool activities and worked three jobs. I was able to save up enough money for an apartment and once my lease was up, I moved to New York where I began interning for different fashion houses and Vogue while going to FIT in New York.
How did you get the role on Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian?
One of my friends is a celebrity hairstylist and I was seeing all of the opportunities he was given, for example, getting flown to Vegas to do an appearance. I was invited to go too but I didn’t want to because I wasn’t feeling myself, I was very depressed. I wanted to be like them because they were doing amazing things so I went online to look for reality television castings. I found a casting that was looking for fat and depressed people (laughs) and I clicked on the link where I was able to e-mail my story to them. I sent them pictures of me eating two tubs of ice cream at the moment that I was applying. (laughs) and from that point, they called me for an interview that lasted about six hours. After, they told me to come so they could interview me in person. The day after my in person interview, I saw that it was casting for Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian but I never knew it all along.
Could you describe your experience on the show?
First, I will say out of 250,000 applications, Khloe chose 17 cast members and I was lucky enough to be one of them. For me, it was a shock to even be on the show because I had extremely bad luck. Filming the show was hard for me because almost three weeks into filming, the blogs began posting stuff about me and my past. I was a blogger that became a public figure where people rip you to shreds. It was very difficult. There was a time where I almost quit. It was a lot to handle but I had a lot of support.
What was the journey like in order for you to lose 40 pounds?
We had four juices and two salads a day and we worked out three times a day. I did boxing, muay thai, and a lot of cardio. I eventually picked up swimming towards the end. We also got a meal prep company to sponsor us too. That’s mostly where I was able to see the weight come off.
How was life been after Revenge Body?
It has been amazing and it has been a roller coaster in a half. Everyone has been so supportive. I’m really excited for fashion week, the blog has been doing amazing, I’m just happy to see things going the way they are.
