How does it feel to inspire so many women in sports?

It is a wonderful feeling to have been a standout high school and collegiate athlete. When I was presented with the opportunity to become the General Manager of a full contact all-female football team (the New York Sharks), I was all in. This was huge because, like the start of the WNBA, we were making history.

What inspires you the most about being a leader?

Knowing that I am changing lives is what inspires me.

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

Being a great athlete, becoming a mother, helping people, growing in the world of real estate and taking on ventures that are difficult but incredibly worthwhile. I am proud and honored to have been the General Manager and Vice President of the New York Sharks women’s football team. I am so honored to be a two-time Super Bowl Champion, one in the Women’s Football Association (WFA) and the other in the Independence Women’s Football League (IWFL). In high school, I was a two-time All-Star and, in college, I was selected as a two-time all-tournament, all-regional player scoring 50 points in a single game.

What would you tell someone who wants to mirror your success?

You must study and work at whatever you want to do. You have to be willing to listen and learn from those who are doing what you want to do on a grander level.

What sense of purpose do you draw from your culture and community?

That I must lead by example and teach those who follow, to stand for what is right.

What’s next for you?

I’m not sure yet. I am taking my time to figure things out. I am retired and I moved south where I plan to enjoy every moment of life.

Where can we find you?

I am on Facebook as Crystal Turpin.
