Atlanta-based artist, The Bonfyre has hit the music scene in ways you wouldn’t even believe! Her hit single, “Automatic” reached #1 on the UAC charts and even made the Billboard Emerging Artist Charts. The soulful, creative artist is making moves in the music industry and has our fullest attention! We sat down with the songstress to discuss her EP, “Ready to Love,” Her hit new single, and inspiration behind her oh-so-unique name, The Bonfyre.
Tell us about yourself. Did you always know you would end up in the music industry?
Well, my name is The Bonfyre and I am from Chicopee, Massachusetts. I have a dream and I’m living it, it is an incredible blessing. Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a singer. I come from a family of entertainers so it was just instilled in me.
Where does the name The Bonfyre come from?
I moved from Chicopee to Atlanta when I first started pursuing music. I was there for about three years but I wasn’t working with many people when I first got there, I was still trying to find myself as an artist. The people that I worked with would always ask me what I wanted my music to sound like. I would always describe it to them as a bonfire. One of my first memories with music is at a bonfire. My family and I used to do it for fun and hang out. We would always sing. It doesn’t matter where you’re at, its always-good vibe at bonfires and you make memories. I wanted my music to express that for people. I really started calling myself The Bonfyre after that and ran with it!
Congratulations on making #1 on the UAC Charts on Billboard for your single, “Automatic!” Can you tell us about the idea behind creating this NEW single?
I worked with such amazing people on this and it was just a dope experience. All the music I work on is organic and it comes from a place of realness. It transpired that way. We were in the studio, having a conversation and next thing you know, we’re writing. “Automatic” is about keeping it real. In a relationship, that’s how I am. That’s how I am as a person, I’m very direct, and true to my colors. You get the best out of people that way. I wanted to make it known that it’s always 100 with me and I love expressing that through music.
Your EP “Ready to Love” was a great success. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the songs on the EP?
I had the pleasure of working with Harmony Samuels, Raphael Saadiq, Hit Maker, and some really amazing writers on “Ready to Love.” When I create music, it comes from a real place. I feel like my EP expressed that. Everything is really organic. It was never planned, it just kind of happened. I feel like it came from a real place at the time, I was going through a lot of things. It’s about the real ins and outs of a relationship. It expresses real things. Each song taps into a relationship standpoint.
What advice could you offer our readers?
If you’re chasing the same dream that I’m chasing, make sure that you always go for it!
Where do you hope to see yourself in the years to come? Are there any upcoming projects you could tell us about?
I want to be on an island somewhere (laughs) how many years are we talking? I have a lot of goals. My main goal is to make memorable music, make legendary music that people can always go back to. I want to make it the Grammys, win a couple (laughs), but overall I just want to make more music. I’m working on my album so people can look forward to that. I have some shows coming up as well!
