I’m in love with the iconic designer, Byron Lars of the Byron Lars Beauty Mark and his design assistant/publicist/social media maven, Sheila Gray. Not just for the fact that his intricately-designed dresses, sweaters, and pants fit my body to a tee, but his right hand is the most gracious, humble, and refreshingly, personable assistant that I’ve met in some years. Byron Lars has been in the fashion game for some time; he’s an Icon amongst black designers and the go-to designers for his loyal customers. His website biography reads…Byron Lars started designing under his own label in 1991 with a small collection of sportswear focusing on what Lars refers to as “twisted American classics.” After only his second season in business, Women’s Wear Daily hailed Byron as, “Rookie of the Year.” His line was immediately snapped up by such prestigious retailers as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdale’s as well as one hundred other specialty stores throughout the U.S. along with some distribution in the U.K. and France.
I was fortunate to meet Sheila Gray two years ago when I came across designs on my favorite fashion blog, when I was looking for something to rock at BET Awards 2016. Sheila immediately responded saying she’d be happy to work with me on an event in Los Angeles. All of her packages are laced with chocolate kisses, beautifully written personal notes, and much more than you could ever ask for.
I quickly learned as a fledgling accessories designer who has an artistic eye for what makes an ensemble complete. I’ve worn both Byron Lars and Sheila Gray on more than a few occasions and welcome a chance to wear and promote this lasting designer. He’s just dope on a rope and I hope you agree. His new collection is on display now at Byron Lars Beauty Mark and on #ByronLarsBM on Instagram. Byron Lars explains, ” I imagine women unapologetically conquering for the good of all in these clothes!”
