Tyka Pryde isn’t just an interior designer—she’s a force of creative energy, innovation, and unapologetic empowerment. With over a decade of experience transforming everything from homes and restaurants to high-profile television sets, Pryde has established herself as one of the most compelling voices in the design industry today. Now, as the star of BET Her’s Design My Space and a celebrated former Art Director for Queer Eye, Tyka is stepping into her own spotlight—and taking the design world with her.
“My style is all about bold textures and unexpected elements,” Pryde explains. “On the last episode of Design My Space Atlanta, I added these over-the-top Moroccan-style arches to a modern new build to give it some soul and character. It was a risky move, especially in a space that was otherwise very clean-lined and contemporary. But the contrast ended up being the wow factor.” That bold decision didn’t just change the room—it changed the energy. “It shifted the whole energy of the home, and the client completely fell in love with it. That experience reminded me how powerful architectural details can be when you trust your vision.”
Pryde’s ability to intuitively reimagine space comes from a place of deep sensitivity to mood, culture, and human emotion. For her, inspiration isn’t something you find on a Pinterest board—it’s something you feel. “I turn to real life. Travel. I’ll take myself on a date to a museum or just walk through a part of the city I haven’t explored in a while. Sometimes I dig into books about psychology or architecture from different cultures,” she shares. “Even a color combo on someone’s outfit at the grocery store can unlock a new idea. I think when you’re open, inspiration shows up in the everyday.”
That open-hearted curiosity is exactly what has allowed her to excel in spaces many designers find daunting. “Restaurants challenge me the most,” she says. “You’re designing for mood, movement, durability, and branding all at once. There are so many layers, and everything needs to hold up under pressure.” While restaurants may be her toughest tests, it’s in homes that she feels most grounded. “Homes feel like second nature to me, especially when I’m helping someone create a space that mirrors who they are. Those are the projects where I feel most aligned creatively and emotionally.”
Still, the magic we see on screen is only part of the story. “The day-to-day is actually super tedious sometimes,” Pryde admits. “It’s a lot of computer work, sourcing, spreadsheets, budgets, and emails. It’s not all shopping and styling and being creative. That part, as an artist, is my least favorite.” To stay inspired, she’s designed her workspace to be a reflection of the calm, curated environments she builds for others. “I’ve got art, plants, sage, and candles. I’m always playing music, sipping tea, and trying to make sitting at my laptop feel like a whole experience.”
That intentionality is what defines her. It’s also what’s propelling her forward. While she’s achieved remarkable success on screen and behind the scenes, Pryde’s vision stretches far beyond her current accolades. “I see myself continuing to grow as a television host and storyteller. I’m working on a book, I want to launch a podcast, and I definitely see product lines in my future.” She’s also developing a new online course—a masterclass born from over ten years of experience. “I wanted to put everything I’ve learned over the last 10+ years as a designer in one place so people can access the tools to design with confidence. I’m excited to see where that course leads and what new doors it opens.”
In an industry often focused on trends and aesthetics, Tyka Pryde brings soul, story, and a sense of purpose to every project. Her designs don’t just look good—they feel right. And as she expands her empire into books, products, and education, it’s clear that Pryde isn’t just building spaces—she’s building legacy.
For event organizers, panel curators, and those seeking engaging thought leaders in the creative industry, Tyka Pryde is more than ready to take the stage. Her passion is magnetic, her insights are rich, and her presence is powerfully impactful.
