Rachel Wilson discovered her gift for singing at the young age of five. It is through her life that she has gained experience and passion to reach the unreachable and relate with the people that have found hope, encouragement and inspiration through her ministry of music.
Rachel released, “Introducing Rachel Wilson” in 2008, which was produced by Greg Norwood. Currently, Rachel is an Artist with DAF Entertainment Group, with Darin and Adriann Lewis-Freeman, from the two-time Stellar Award and Dove Award winning gospel group RiZen.
Rachel has been blessed to spread the gospel through song on major networks such as BET’s Video Gospel, TCT, Bobby Jones Gospel, Atlanta Live, as well as the Emmy-nominated late-night Christian show I’m Just Saying, with Pastor Dan Willis.
Her talent has led to her sharing the stage with many great gospel artists such as Ben Tankard, Canton Jones, Doug Williams, Keith “The Wonder Boy” Johnson, Luther Barnes, Earnest Pugh, and gospel great Pastor Shirley Caesar. She recently worked with world-renowned singer, songwriter, and producer Carnell Murrell along with the skillful and talented Michael Mindingall. The three worked together and released two hit singles entitled “Love Song” and “Anything.” Rachel is currently in studio, again working with Mindingall, and is preparing to work with Gospel Jazz great, Ben Tankard and others.
What new music are you working on?
I am so excited to announce that my team and I are currently working on a new single, “LOVE SONG” that is projected to be released in December 2019. Also, we have worked with producers Ben Tankard who recently produced a new song for me and Michael Mindingall who wrote a song for me that will be released in the near future.
Have you faced any challenges with pursuing a career as a Gospel Artist?
To me, these were the fundamentals that very few churchgoers seem to excel in and as a result, my journey had begun on a path of brokenness and disappointment. My husband and I are fighters, so through it all we wouldn’t quit regardless of the circumstances that were handed to us. On top of the disappointment and lack of support, I was cheated by a producer that was a part of a label that I was once signed to, and to sum it up, it seemed like I was forgotten about and buried for a long time. For those that will be reading this, they need to know that most of the time nothing will be handed to you but rather you must fight for your dream.
How do you feel about people who say a gospel artist should never collaborate with a secular artist in the music industry?
Honestly, it depends on what the artist are collaborating on. For example with a secular artist singing about Jesus on a gospel artist track it is not a sin. However, if someone is professing to live for Jesus as a Christian but lives a contrary life that’s a sin. I believe it is safe to sing what your lifestyle portrays. I am a Gospel Artist because I choose to live a life of biblical standards according to the word of God. It is very easy to sing about what I live rather than for me to sing gospel music and not live according to the gospel.
Do you have a limit as to just performing in one genre of music? Has anyone offered you the chance to perform/create R&B music?
No, I am not limited to gospel only, but technically I am a Gospel Artist and I am known to write and/or sing inspirational songs. These songs are affirming and edifying to one’s spirit but do not say the name, Jesus. I have had one or two chances to perform R&B but refused the opportunity due to the standards I live by and my passion to sing gospel music. I can honestly say I am very happy and satisfied singing gospel music.
What’s next for you in the upcoming year?
The next thing for me as an artist is to keep God first as I pursue his plan for my life as his servant and by continuing to stay focused on managing all the opportunities that God has given me such as several nominations for my single “PRAISE MEDLEY” which is currently out right now on all digital outlets. Several gospel music awards have chosen “PRAISE MEDLEY” to be nominated in multiple categories in a few different states. 2020 is a very promising year for me due to the many doors that God has opened. Multiple appointments, events, radio, etc., along with my new single that will drop in this coming December. Everything that has happened for me, God did it.
