Last month, Sheen was invited to the Westchester Black Girls Rock! Book Talk and Awards Ceremony in New Rochelle, New York, hosted by Sister 2 Sister International, Inc., an organization that seeks to connect and empower women and girls from the African diaspora.

The event honored local influential women in leadership and alumna of the STSI  organization, and included a discussion with Black Girls Rock! creator, Beverly Bond and music by the infamous DJ Cocoa Chanelle and R&B Bronx crooner Tay Bell.

Among those honored were McDonald’s franchise owner, Cortesia Norman, and Hon. Pearl C. Quarles, a community leader and the first African-American woman to serve as County Legislator.

New York State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins also attended and gave a rousing and encouraging speech to the dozens of excited young black girls, who sat in the audience.

After the intimate discussion with Beverly Bond, facilitated by celebrity host Dr. Traci Alexander, attendees enjoyed a reception with food, music, and a book signing of Beverly’s Black Girls Rock! Owning Our Magic. Rocking Our Truth.
