How long have you been in business?
I’ve been in business for two years since retirement from the military with my brother who has been in the entertainment business. I’m the Business Manager for iRunMS Entertainment, LLC, a professional entertainment company that provides services for all occasions. We are based in Biloxi, Mississippi with over 40 years of experience as a disc jockey, concert promoter and sound/light engineer.
Why did you pick this particular field to do business in?
I picked this particular field for the love of music and people which been instilled in me since my childhood. Music is good food for the soul and sometimes the words and/or beat in a song can change your whole mood. You can be at work, a family function, concert, church, etc., it doesn’t matter. Music and entertainment just shifts you into a different mindset. I love to help make people feel happy and good about themselves and life, a lot of times music will do just that.
Do you mind telling us about a challenge you have had to face in the business and how you overcame it?
The number-one lesson I’ve learned in my lifetime is that success doesn’t happen overnight and nothing beats hard work. Hard work outweighs talent and intelligence, it is necessary if you want to succeed. Don’t waste your time trying to cover up your faults. Instead, accept them, face reality and do your best to work around these faults. There is no greater sign of confidence than self-acceptance. It’s equally important to learn from the past. I’m not afraid to look back. You must make mistakes to build character and to make yourself a better, more rounded individual. There is no better investment than an education. Investing in education for the sake of getting a paper degree will not pay off in the way that investing in a passion of mine will. Education is a lifelong process. It doesn’t end when the class does. Remember life is your best teacher!
Why do you feel you have been as successful as you have in your business?
I am fearless, I keep a positive attitude, I am very passionate about what I do, and I am a great listener. You have to know what a customer wants and carry out the service that is being asked. Also, having a business partner and supportive friends helps. Understand the importance of family goes a long way!
Why are you so compelled on seeing other women win BIG?
Because I’m selfless, I truly want to help other women win BIG in whatever they do. We can all learn something from each other. I believe there is power in numbers. I see women winning as being a CEO, Manager, and in many different business industries and in life, thus growing constantly breaking the glass ceiling. I come from a family with a strong woman, my mom, and was able to I learn to be strong and then soft when needed. I tell every woman, “No one can stop you, but you!” You can do anything you want, if you put your mind to it. Honestly, at the end of the day I want women to be equal to men. If men can do it, so can we. So let’s all be go-getters and WIN BIG TOGETHER!
What’s next in 2018 for you?
I will continue to be an advocate for victims and/or survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault and bullying. I will continue to tell my truth and share my testimony with the world. I’m currently in the process of starting my second business, YJ Empowerment Solutions, as a life coach and empowerment speaker. It is a profession that is profoundly different from consulting, mentoring, advice, therapy, or counseling. The coaching process addresses specific personal projects, business successes, general conditions and transitions in the client’s personal life, relationships or profession by examining what is going on right now, discovering what your obstacles or challenges might be, and choosing a course of action to make your life be what you want it to be. My business is set to launch in the spring of 2018.
Do you mind sharing a fun fact about yourself?
Many people see me as a slim, trim, beautiful woman but little do they know, I can put down some food. I absolutely LOVE to eat! I am known to post photos of my meals from time to time on social media and use the hash tag #FoodieGirl.
