I first stumbled upon Shauntel’s Instagram page when an eye-catching post of hers popped up on my Discovery page. In no time, I was following her and telling my fashion-savvy friends about her, who are so savvy in the fashion world that they already knew who she was. The natural-born fashionista, based in Charlotte, North Carolina is the perfect example that you don’t have to live in the Fashion capital of the world to showcase your love of fashion to the world in perfection! Tune into our exclusive interview with Shauntel Greene of Hey Shaunie as I got to know she shares the inspiration behind her brand and where she hopes to see herself in the future!

Do you mind telling us about yourself? What inspired you to create your life, style, and fashion blog?

Sure! Fun Fact about me- I was born in Germany! But have spent most of my life in the Charlotte area. I went to school for Public Relations and work full-time in corporate retail. Working full time in the fashion and retail world was never on my radar; I’ve always had a love for it but didn’t know that I could actually have a career in this field. My love for fashion and style started at a young age. I would circle and create outfits in the Limited Too catalogs that would come out monthly which probably tells my age ha! I just turned 30 in December by the way. I started my blog almost 5 years ago before blogging was as saturated and huge as it is today. I was working in Marketing at the time and desperately needed a creative outlet. There were a couple of bloggers that I followed at the time and loved what they were doing-sharing their daily outfits, recipes, travel diaries, etc and thought to myself I think I could do the same thing! That’s when I started to brainstorm what I wanted my blog and brand to represent and what kind of content I wanted to share. Sharing my style and fashion inspiration was a no brainer!

You are adored for sharing budget-friendly fashion pieces for your followers but overall how do you believe would you describe your style?

Aw, thank you! I have always been one to look for a good deal. There is just something about scoring a really great piece for less that’s so exhilarating haha! I would describe my style as on trend however I love to make the trends my own and make them more simplified to be able to stand the test of time. Let’s face it; trends come, and they go but being practical and sustainable in your style will help you to build a wardrobe that doesn’t need to be constantly cleaned out. I try to balance trendier pieces with a minimalist mindset. I also love patterns and color and try to incorporate those into my outfits as well. I would describe my style as chic, clean and bold.

How are you able to keep up with the fashion trends in an ever-changing world and consistently put out content for your audience?

Being an influencer, I’m constantly on Instagram checking out other influencers and also paying attention to the consistency I may start to see when trends are just beginning whether that means seeing lots of delicate jewelry trending, animal print, etc. I love to watch how trends evolve over time. I also love a good fashion magazine. I get Instyle magazine monthly and also check out Vogue to understand how to style new trends and to also get inspired. I love flipping through the pages of a magazine and seeing the different colors, bold patterns, and new trends. That inspiration keeps me going in creating content for the blog- it may inspire me to try a new trend or to even try a new pose when shooting my content.

What is something most people don’t know about Shauntel?

Something that most people don’t know about me is that I was a collegiate cheerleader at Gardner-Webb University also most people don’t know that most of my photography is done by either my mom, dad, or sister. They have been so supportive of my blogging journey!

Can you offer your best piece of advice to our readers who may be aspiring to become a fashion blogger but don’t know where to start?

My best piece of advice would be, just do it! There were so many times that I doubted myself before I launched. I would think “people don’t care what I have to say.” And I honestly didn’t even think or believe people would read what I was putting out, but I was so wrong. We can be our own worst critics more often times than not and that definitely can have an effect on the goals and dreams that you are striving towards IF you let it. Don’t let those negative thoughts have that much weight and know that the passion you have to start a blog or become an influencer serves a bigger purpose than you. I have had so many opportunities that I would have never had if I didn’t take that leap. So, I say take the leap of faith, do your research on everything that is needed to launch a blog (i.e. a logo, website domain, etc.), be prepared to work hard and diligently because followers don’t happen overnight and enjoy the journey!

Where do you hope to see yourself in the years to come?

I see myself being a full-time influencer someday, working with big brands on collaborations and I’ve always wanted to have my own boutique so I would love to make that a reality as well!
