Mother’s Day just passed… but the celebration continues.

On Wednesday, May 14th, the second annual Mom Honors took place at Culver Theater, a prestigious celebration focused on honoring the unmatched spirit and tenacity of mothers who continue to shape our industry and communities. 

Sheen Magazine had the pleasure of attending the invite-only event, which began with a cocktail hour welcoming guests with drinks, appetizers, and even foot massages! 

Founded by Markeisha Darden, Phylicia Fant, and The Purple Agency, Mom Honors is dedicated to elevate and empower mothers – while creating meaningful change. This year’s event raised funds for Faith Moves Only No Fear supporting transitional housing for homeless mothers and children, providing emergency aid to mothers in need. They also partnered with Eggs Over Easy, who advanced fertility education and support for Black women. 

When it came time to the programming, guests entered a different theater where KJ Rose did an incredible job hosting. After a fireside chat with some notable women in the music industry, the honorees were presented with awards and roses. 

Lala Milan, Angela C. Styles, Mrs. Tish Taylor-Searcy, Shev Robinson, and Kelli Coleman each embody what it means to lead with heart, vision, and purpose. Each boasting their own unique journeys, these women inspired everyone in the room that you can still have a career, while balancing motherhood. 

This year’s event follows in the footsteps of last year’s inaugural Mom Honors, which honored Jhene Aiko, Jordin Sparks, Andra Day, and more.
