Multifaceted actor, professional wrestler, and retired MMA champion Fernando Marrero has been cast in the upcoming comedy sequel Happy Gilmore 2, starring Adam Sandler, alongside returning favorites Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Kevin Nealon.
The film is set to premiere on July 25, 2025, marking a major milestone in Marrero’s dynamic and fast-growing entertainment career.
Best known for standout appearances in Night Court, The Rookie: Feds, and Sandy Wexler, Marrero brings a commanding 6’2” presence and an intense physical skillset to the big screen, blending action credibility with natural comedic timing.
Trained at the elite Knokx Pro Wrestling Academy under legendary figures Rikishi, Reno Anoa’i, and Gangrel, Marrero is a professional wrestler with deep ties to the iconic Samoan Dynasty.
He is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and former BJJ tournament champion, having trained under Professor Ricardo Wilke (of the Rigan Machado lineage) and alongside BJJ icon Xande Ribeiro.
With an impressive 10–2 pro record and two World Championships under Gladiator Challenge, Marrero built a respected career in professional Mixed Martial Arts.
Black House MMA Gym in Los Angeles served as his headquarters and home base for many years throughout his fight career.
Now officially retired from active professional competition, Marrero is fully focused on his film and entertainment journey, bringing his powerful presence and discipline from the ring and cage to the screen.
“Being part of Happy Gilmore 2 is truly an honor,” says Marrero. “To work alongside Adam Sandler and such an iconic cast in the sequel to one of the most beloved comedies of all time is a dream come true. I’m excited to bring something fresh and unexpected to this new chapter.”
Happy Gilmore 2 is being produced by Netflix and reunites audiences with the beloved character nearly three decades after the original film became a cultural touchstone.
The sequel promises to blend nostalgia with new energy, and Fernando Marrero is poised to bring his unique skillset to the mix.
