The news broke fast: Glorilla was arrested for possession of marijuana during a burglary in her Atlanta home. In today’s time, it’s so easy to get swept up in the headlines and cancel a person for wrongdoing without giving them a chance to redeem themselves. Although the world may put her under scrutiny, it’s not the time to cancel her; just continue to support her.

At the recent BET Awards, Gloria performed ‘Rain Down On Me’ with gospel artist Kirk Franklin and Maverick City Music, and also won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for the song. She received a lot of backlash for winning that award, solely because she’s a Hip Hop Artist, and she won in the Best Gospel category. Although that may seem controversial,  there’s a belief that this aligns with the heart and soul of the artist.

In all of her interviews, we don’t just see “Glo“; we see the glow of genuine authenticity that she carries, and that should be protected.

As we all know, fame is not as glamorous as it may look. Glorilla is a young, real, and raw talent who is still navigating life along with new responsibilities of success, and as a community, we should allow her to make mistakes. With the legalization of Marijuana across so many states and the openness in its cultural view, this arrest feels more like a reflection of the lingering systemic biases than a true indictment of her character. To paint her as reckless or irresponsible over this moment, especially when the call was made for her protection when her home was being burglarized, would be not only unfair but inhumane.

Celebrities are not above life; they are in it too. We hold them to such high standards that we forget that success does not come with a manual. People make mistakes. They have bad judgment. They are going through things just like the rest of us. It just so happens that for them, it is revealed under a spotlight. The best thing to do for Glorilla is to offer her grace and support. Support looks like seeing the full person, not just the moment.

This chapter in her story will pass, but how we show up in moments like this says everything about our culture. Let’s choose to stand beside and not above. Let’s be the kind of community that sees the setbacks as setups for something better. Because Glorilla. She is still rising, and we are still rooting for her.

God got you!
