The triple threat who has been gracing your TV screens since How To Rock, Algee Smith, is a singer, actor and producer. A storyteller at heart, Smith brings vulnerability and energy to every role, whether he’s on screen or in the studio.
“I’m sorry, you’re not my kind of girl.” You may recognize him as Ralph Tresvant from The New Edition Story. He also played Khalil in The Hate U Give. While his role was brief, his character was a pivotal part of the film’s message. Smith also appeared as Chris McKay in the hit HBO series Euphoria.

Smith will not be leaving screens anytime soon. He is set to appear in The Gates, a psychological thriller starring Keith Powers and Mason Gooding. He is also stepping into producing with several projects in development.
On July 15, Smith released an EP titled Love Lost, where he takes listeners through the emotional stages of a breakup. He hosted an exclusive listening party at Belaire Headquarters in Atlanta, followed by a special live performance later that week. The project is a clear example of using pain as creative fuel. “The idea to put art behind the pain, for me, came during the phase of a song on the project called ‘The Way It Goes,’” he said. “But right before that phase is when I was like, OK, this is me being very vulnerable. I’m starting to write my feelings out now. Then the light bulb went off. It was like, oh, this is a project.”
Smith wants ‘Love Lost’ to connect with both men and women. Although it reflects a man’s perspective, it gives women a chance to understand the male thought process through heartbreak. From standouts like “Magic City,” “Honest,” and “Sinners,” the EP delivers emotion and depth.
“For me, the project tracks myself going through the phases of a breakup,” Smith said. “What I want people to feel when they hear the project or each song is that certain phase I was in.”
Smith brings emotional storytelling back to R&B. One of the standout moments on the EP includes a flipped sample from Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” aligning perfectly with the timing of their upcoming tour. Smith shared that he booked a flight to New York and drove to Connecticut to speak with Monica’s team to get the sample cleared.
“I feel like that song on the project is low-key kind of the epitome of R&B, how we grew up on it,” Smith said. “So when I heard that sample, I’m like, I need this song. To say this project is R&B, I need something like this on it.”
Smith’s dedication to the project and his willingness to be vulnerable through storytelling show why Love Lost deserves attention. Whether in the studio or on screen, he continues to grow as an artist and creator. With a tour on the way, this is just the beginning.
