Baltimore-born and raised star Gabby Samone lit up the stage on Tuesday, August 12th, at City Winery, and SHEEN Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with her to discuss her career and her journey on American Idol. From the moment she stepped on stage, Gabby captivated the audience with her graceful voice and magnetic presence, leaving the crowd on their feet all night.

While she described her time on American Idol as an “amazing opportunity,” Gabby admitted
she never imagined herself competing on a reality competition show. In fact, before auditioning, she reminisced on reaching out to fellow singer “J. Hud” also known as Jennifer Hudson for advice and was encouraged to “go for it.” Believing wholeheartedly in God’s timing, Gabby knew this was the right moment to take the leap.

The competition, she says, pushed her far beyond her comfort zone, shaping her into a more
resilient and confident woman. “Of course there were moments where I didn’t feel like I did my absolute best,” she reflected, “but I had to keep going.” Being the youngest of eight children,Gabby is deeply family-oriented, so being away from her loved ones for such an extended time was one of her biggest challenges. Still, it became a defining part of her growth.

Her biggest takeaway from American Idol? “Don’t dwell on the past, let it go. There are times
you’ll feel down or be extra hard on yourself, but you have to learn to shake it off, keep working on yourself, and pouring into yourself no matter what happened.”

When asked about her dream collaboration, Gabby didn’t hesitate: SZA. She lit up as she
shared that SZA had even liked one of her videos, a moment that fueled her hope that they’ll
one day work together. Gabby also revealed she grew up listening to and studying Whitney
Houston, whose powerful voice greatly inspired her. Her go-to karaoke songs are Saving All My Love by Whitney Houston and I’m Going Down by Mary J. Blige, and the first concert she ever attended was Brandy Carlile. If she had to describe herself in one word? “Caring, I really love and care for people,” she said with a warm smile.

With her undeniable talent, heartfelt authenticity, and a voice that can move any crowd, Gabby Samone is proving she’s a force to be reckoned with. From her unforgettable run on American Idol to the powerful performances she’s delivering now, her journey is only just beginning and it’s one that promises to inspire and uplift.
