What was the inspiration behind your book?

Dr. Jefferson: My inspiration came from years of seeing children walk into my office with fear and anxiety. As a new mother myself, I began reading countless children’s books and realized how powerful storytelling could be in shaping a child’s mindset. I wrote Zoe’s Day with Dr. J to help kids feel prepared and empowered for their doctor visits.

Tell us about your book.

Dr. Jefferson: Zoe’s Day with Dr. J is a playful and uplifting story that follows a curious young girl as she prepares for her pediatric checkup. Through vibrant illustrations and relatable dialogue, the book normalizes common medical experiences such as getting a height check or vaccine. It encourages children to ask questions, express emotions, and build confidence. It’s both a literary and emotional toolkit for kids and parents alike.

Do you believe in work-life balance? If so, how do you maintain it?

Dr. Jefferson- Absolutely. As a physician, entrepreneur, and mom, balance is essential to my well-being. I maintain it by setting boundaries, prioritizing what matters most, and giving myself grace. Some days are about business goals, others are about movie nights or unplugged time with my family and both are equally important.

What would attract listeners to your personal story?

Dr. Jefferson: I think listeners connect with authenticity. My story reflects real moments of struggle, perseverance, and purpose. I continue to work on balancing a demanding medical career, motherhood, being a supportive wife and the creative journey of publishing a book. I hope my path inspires others to pursue their calling and goals even if they’ve “made it.”
