Columbia! Columbia! Filled the air on Saturday, July 19th at Salsa Con Fuego in the Bronx, where Colombian Reggaetonera Singer, Rapper and Songwriter Fariana makes a stop on her U.S. Tour promoting her latest album, Underwater, released last year. She is making a powerful crossover in the U.S. market. She came to Salsa Con Fuego to perform singles from her new album and celebrated her Colombian pride on Colombian Independence Day, which is officially on June 20th.
Fariana, born Farina Pao Paucar Franco, was born in Medellín, Colombia, and started her career auditioning and performing on the Colombian version of Simon Cowell’s The X Factor called “El Factor X” in 2005. She came in third place. In Colombia, she made history by being the first Colombian female artist to release three reggaeton singles, “Solocon Palabras”, “Sera”, and “Regresa a Mi”. In 2017, she became the second Colombian artist to sign with Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, after fellow Colombian and Latin-Grammy artist Shakira, who signed in 2012.
In 2021, she was the first female nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Urban Song category for her single “A Fuego.”
Now she is expanding her name in the U.S. music market with a star-studded roster of collaborations from Rapper Flo Rida, Reggae Artist Sean Paul, and Mr. Vega, and other Latin artists like Colombian Artist Alex Sensation and Award-Winning Producer and Artist Jeon.
“Yo soy Colombian!” declared the singer wearing lavender hair and a full suit of lavender, which is her color of choice for her “Underwater” Era. She came on stage as fans rushed to the stage to see the singer perform one of her singles off her album “El Caballito” or “The Little Horse”, and her single” Gansta Love/Bellakiti”, and her single “DORA”, while the music video played behind her. She also had her regular DJ for the tour, DJ Lucho (IG@djlunchony), who was comedically in a blue onesie while being on set.
Fans gave her roses, and she hugged her fans on stage, and asked in Spanish, “What are we drinking tonight at Salsa Con Fuego?” One fan yelled “Bacardi!” and she took a shot on stage and showed off her rapping skills doing a freestyle over the beat for Blueface and Cardi B’s “Thotiana”. She will also be working on more freestyle on her YouTube channel.
Next, she asked in Spanish, “Who has a birthday tonight?”. She then brought a fan on stage and sang her Happy Birthday and danced with her on stage. She posed for selfies and with fans, sang an a cappella for the audience, and exited the stage for the night. Roses were thrown to her, and she headed to the back door of the club.
Fariana’s back on the road, where she will be in Salt Lake City on August 15th at Famous Karamba and in San Jose on August 16th at the Club Rio Rodeo. She will be going international in September to Mexico. Upcoming news on the artist will be posted on her Instagram, IG@fariana.
In a recent interview with USA Today, she speaks on her goals during the “Underwater” Era and celebrating Colombian pride and making her mark in the U.S.: “I want to maintain my essence and expand my sound to different cultures, and different ears.”
