In celebration of Renee Rapp’s new Album, “Bite Me,” and her upcoming tour this Fall, fans of the Mean Girl turned pop-star got to enter the world of the album at the two-day Bite Me Pop-Up in Soho in New York City at 620 Broadway on July 31st-August 1st.
On July 31st, Rapp surprised fans at the pop-up by taking selfies and signing exclusive merchandise that would be sold at the tour. The pop-up is part of an album promotion tour for “Bite Me”. The pop-up featured limited edition merchandise such as the special edition vinyl version of her first two albums, Gas trading cards, t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, caps, and a parody version of The New York Post cover featuring Rapp being photographed by paparazzi after a messy night leaving a club.
According to her Complex video, giving a tour of the pop-up on Instagram, Rapp said, “All the t-shirts say something derogatory.” She was referring to the DIY t-shirt station with a hand press, where you can create your t-shirts with cheeky slogans like “Leave Me Alone, Bi**h!” Life’s A Bi**h, and So Am I” and “At Least I’m Hot!” These are references to lyrics on the album. Other merchandise she spoke about was the hoodies, featuring stars on the nipples, a reference to the song “Leave Me Alone”, with “Bite Me” on the back. The most popular item was the Bite Me tank top.
There was a luggage cart with confetti all over the floor and clothes thrown all over it. “This is a mad reference, and I’ve been known to ride it,” said Rapp. This is a reference to her second single, “Mad”.
On August 1st, when visiting the pop-up that was covered in red velvet theatre curtains, I was entering a stage with huge spotlights and stars dancing off the curtains, similar to her “Why is She Still Here?” video. This was a real backstage experience.
The music videos, so far, for the album were playing on a jumbo TV screen behind the cash register, and the floor was covered with confetti. Songs from the new album were blasting, and fans came for Instagram-worthy photos. The t-shirts started $45 and tank tops were $30. The limited edition vinyl was $30, and the hoodies were priced at $130. The limited-edition Gas station cards were $20 each or 5 for $80. The “Bite Me” bumper stickers were priced at $15 at the register.
Fans who purchased merchandise were able to wear it to the BITE ME Release Show later that evening at 7 PM at the Warsaw in Brooklyn, New York, which will be her last performance in New York until she heads on tour to Madison Square Garden on September 29th and Barclays on October 1st with special guests Syd and Ravyn Lenae.
As of August 1st, Rapp’s “BITE ME” album has entered the top 10 on the U.S. iTunes chart according to X (previously Twitter) @Chart Data.
Her tour will officially start on September 23rd. If you were not able to make it to the pop-up for merchandise, you can purchase it at her online store, https://shop.reneerapp.com/. The online store has more exclusive merchandise that was not available at the pop-up shop, and you can purchase tickets for the tour. The online store also has exclusive Mean Girls merchandise, from her feature role in the Mean Girls: Musical in 2024.
After taking a tour of the pop-up shop, fans were treated to a free sweet treat with a free Häagen-Dazs ice cream cone with four flavors to choose from: Vanilla Salted Caramel, Toasted Almond Fudge, Summer Berry, and Triple Chocolate Fudge
Rapp spoke on the inspiration of the pop-up shop and what she wanted to achieve with the pop-up shop, “My favorite thing about this pop-up, you walk into a world like the album and an album is meant to be listened to and is meant to be experienced,” she said.
