Thousands of fans dressed in their Ghostbusters jumpsuit for the Annual Ghostbusters Day 2025 in New York on Saturday, June 7th, 2025. The event took place at the historic FDNY Hook & Ladder 8 Firehouse, located at 14 North Moore Street in Tribeca, New York City. This is the same firehouse that the original Ghostbusters movie was filmed in 1984. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the supernatural comedy film starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Rick Moranis. The movie debuted at #1 and remained the highest-grossing film of 1984 for seven consecutive weeks.

At noon, the event kicked off with the Ecto-1 car parked across the street from the firehouse, as loyal fans of the franchise came out to take photos in the car and to see the inside of the historic firehouse, as well as to get a tour of the inside. The event was divided into six key zones to help streamline the experience and minimize crowding.

The Ladder 8 Merchandise booth was located at the front of the firehouse, and the Ghostbuster Day exclusive merchandise was sold in the back alley. Some of the merchandise includes Hook & Ladder patches, stickers, hats, magnets, t-shirts, and hoodies starting from $20-$50. The autograph signing will take place through the firehouse’s side door. There was a Hasbro booth across the Ecto-1 offering original and exclusive Ghostbuster merchandise. Finally, in the center was the main stage, where there was a stage for live performances throughout the day.

The event was hosted by Author and Podcast Host of Yes Have Some Podcast, Craig Goldberg. His podcast is about everything related to supernatural movies and franchises. He hosted the event with the Philadelphia-based punk band The Mad Splatter, who performed live covers of songs and the Ghostbusters theme song during the event.

This year, the band releases their new CD with three new original tracks for the celebration of Ghostbusters Day 2025. The CD was part of the Ghostbusters merchandise for $10. There was also the DJ Steve-O, who was the on-hand emcee of the event for the first time at this event.

The proceeds from Ghostbusters Day 2025 will benefit the Thomas R Elsasser Fund, which supports the families of the FDNY firefighters who have passed away in non-line-of-duty circumstances.

After the performances, there was a surprise with the real firefighters of the FDNY Hooks and Ladder 8, who made their way on a firetruck to an actual emergency. The crowd cheered and screamed, “Heroes!” in the air.

The crowds grew larger by the hour, and the announcement of a 2nd Ecto-1 car came through the event, and there was a surprised appearance by the Director Jason Reitman. He is the son of director Ivan Reitman, Actress McKenna Grace from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), and Actress Carrie Coon, who also appeared in the Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024). All three were dressed in their Ghostbusters jumpsuit and came out to join the following of the Ghostbuster cult. Ghostbusters: Afterlife entered the box office at #1, grossing $129.4 million in the United States.

“Happy Ghostbusters Day!” said Reitman, as he took the stage to speak to the crowds of fans that came out to support the Ghostbuster franchise. “Forty years ago, my father stood on this corner and he chose this building to be the Ghostbusters headquarters, and he changed the life of the building,” he said. “I am so proud to be a Reitman and a Ghostbuster! One of the reasons I am proud to be a Ghostbuster is that Ghostbusters give back.  Today, we are raising money with the other 250 Ghostbusters groups across the country to raise money for the Starlight organization.”

Reitman also announced that Sony Pictures will donate a new 4K television and PlayStation PS4 to the FDNY Hook & Ladders 8 Firehouse. “We are grateful for everything the FDNY Hook & Ladder 8 does because you save our lives and make our lives easier,” said Reitman. All the firefighters in the FDNY Hooks & Ladders got a pair of custom and limited-edition Ghostbusters Crocs.

Next, there was a performance from the Pop-Duo Alessi Brothers, who were on the Grammy-winning original motion picture soundtrack of the first Ghostbusters movie in 1984. The soundtrack won a Grammy for Best Album of Original Score for a Motion Picture. The album was nominated for an Oscar in 1985, but lost. They performed their original song Savin’ The Day live for the crowds. They have appeared for every Ghostbusters Day event since 2020.

There was an appearance by Actress Amaryllis Ruiz, aka Luna x Mars (IG@lunaxmars), in her own original Ghostbusters costume. She was featured in the 2016 Ghostbusters spin-off, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, with an all-female cast starring Melissa McCartney, SNL alumni Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. She does cosplay as a Ghostbuster for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, visiting terminal-ill children in various hospitals.

The day continued with fans lining up around the block to get merchandise signed and photos with Jason Reitman, McKenna Grace, and Carrie Coon. The crowds included even more people, Ghostbusters fans who came out in original costumes to show their love for the Ghostbusters Franchise.

Before going inside the FDNY Hook & Ladders for the meet-and-greet with fans, Actress McKenna Grace took a moment to speak to the crowd: “There is nothing more proud than to be a Ghostbuster!” said Grace. “Thank you for being a welcoming family and making New York feel like home,” she said. She then asked the most important question to the thousands of fans in the audience, “Who are You Going to call.?
