3X JUNO Award-winning R&B star Savannah Ré shares her first independent LP entitled Formed, out now via Matrimony Records – Listen HERE. Following her 2022 EP No Weapons, Savannah’s latest entry navigates themes of self-discovery, striving for continuous improvement, and developing a sense of purpose.
With a voice that’s both visceral and poetic, Savannah deftly guides listeners through the last six years of her journey. Finding beauty in chaos, Formed is a front-to-back blast, a listen that is focused and deeply introspective. The Canadian singer-songwriter places herself in the heart of narratives that revel in the nuanced realities of becoming, informed by changes in her everyday life.
Speaking about the project, Savannah shares: “‘Formed’ was initially going to be the Part II to my last EP ‘No Weapons’ then my life completely changed in so many ways! I became completely independent and began walking a completely different path. In a serendipitous way, ‘Formed’ grew into something completely its own. The project is about the journey and all the imperfect nuances of becoming who you’re supposed to be, in a light and triumphant way.”
The new project also includes singles “Sex With My Ex,” “Glory” and “Nine Lives,” the latter of which came alongside a video co-directed by Savannah and her husband, Johann “Yogi The Producer” Deterville. Earlier this week, Savannah previewed Boi-1da-produced project highlight “Go ‘Head” in her On The Radar performance, leaving fans clamoring for its release.
For the cover art, Savannah enlisted photographer Klavdiya Finogina to capture a beautiful portrait: the artist and the delicate frills of her two-piece ensemble, cast against a snow-white backdrop. Through this photo, the project extends its voice beyond sound, becoming a visual representation of growth.
So much has changed since Savannah Ré emerged on the scene with her critically-acclaimed debut EP, Opia. She has become a true R&B purveyor, proven repeatedly through her prolific run of high-profile collaborations, including songs with Babyface, Normani, Jessie Reyez, and Wondagurl, among many others.
Beyond her prowess as a songwriter, she has been recognized for her talent with other accolades, including nominations for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize, and the Polaris Music Prize – all the while cementing her place in history as the first artist to win the Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year JUNO Award for “Solid” and went on to consecutively win two more times with “24 hrs” and “Last One (ft. Dylan Sinclair).”
