Best known for her award-winning company, Lemon-Lime Light Media, and her admired philanthropy work, La’Torria Lemon is what some have described as a force in the entertainment, hospitality and PR industry. Kicking off her career in Public Relations at the tender age of 19 while attending Clark Atlanta University, La’Torria’s creativity, tenacity, ambition, and outgoing personality quickly led her to work on some of the most notable campaigns nationally. She has led teams for notable clients such as Procter & Gamble, United Negro College Fund, All Star Weekend, Various Mega Churches, Essence Festival, and a plethora of other clients. Her ability to curate campaigns and provide strategic public relations has led her to be a 3x publicist of the year, Alumni of the year by Clark Atlanta University, Cirocs Women to Watch in Media, one of Texas’ Top Entrepreneurs of the year, Alpha Phi Alpha’s Woman of The Year, and a 40 Under 40 recipient, just to name a few.

La’Torria has now stepped in front of the camera as one of the newest faces on television’s own network, “Heart & Hustle: Houston.” An ensemble show about 6 women that’s making it shake in the bayou city. SHEEN MAGAZINE got a chance to interview La’Torria Lemon about her journey

Sheen: Transition & Motivation – What made you decide to step from behind the scenes as a publicist into the spotlight as a reality TV personality?

La’Torria: I initially went to college for radio/tv/film and my path was led to do PR, but i’ve always had a passion for radio/tv/film. When this opportunity presented itself, it made sense to be apart as they wanted to highlight women in Houston who are doing great work. Houston has always been a huge part of who I am, what I do, and the decisions that I make.

Sheen: Biggest Adjustment – What has been the biggest adjustment for you personally and professionally in this new role?

La’Torria: One of the biggest adjustments is being in the forefront. Although i’ve been known within the city and my industry, I’ve maintained a private life my entire life. Being on TV showcases all areas of your life and at times, it can highlight things in a magnitude that’s more so meant to entertain.

Sheen: Perception Shift – As someone who used to help manage public perception for others, how does it feel now having your own image shaped by cameras and editing?

La’Torria:Not having full control of my own narrative is interesting. The good news is, i’m authentic in what I do and who I am. So, although some edits may showcase scenes in the way that works best for entertainment, there are people who truly know me and my heart and can make an educated guess.

Sheen: Career Impact – Do you feel your background in publicity gives you an advantage in navigating the world of reality television and its pressures?
La’Torria: I’ve been able to do PR for 17 years and work with various shows and talent. I think having that experience has giving me insight in front of the scenes. While filming Heart & Hustle: Houston, I was navigating through one of the toughest seasons of my life and I made the decision to move forward with filming because I wanted someone to be inspired to keep going no matter what.
Sheen: Personal Growth – What have you learned about yourself through this transition that you didn’t expect?
La’Torria: I’ve learned so much about myself through this journey. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to quiet the noise and just keep running your own race. I’ve also learned not to be affraid of letting others into your journey because it may heal them.
Sheen: Future Vision – Where do you see this new career path taking you, and how do you plan to merge your expertise in publicity with your platform as talent?
La’Torria: I’m not sure where I see my new path taking me, but i’m trusting God as he is my publicist.
