On Saturday, April 3, Lifetime debuted a biopic on the gospel music legend Mahalia Jackson, Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia.
Mahalia was a bit before my time, but my mother grew up listening to her in her grandmother’s house so for that reason it was important for me to watch. I won’t give you details but I’ll say Lifetime got this one right, in my opinion Especially the casting.
Danielle Brooks, also co-executive producer of the film, can dive into any role and bring it to life. Through her acting and producing Brooks takes on a journey through Mahalia’s fertility woes, her entrepreneurship and her role in the civil rights movement.
