Based in Northern Virginia, Tierra Hucke, is curating lifestyle and wine content for her blogger brand called Manners and Merlot. Tierra shares her wine down moments, wine pairings and rules of etiquette through her unique writing style. Since 2010 she has been sharing suggestions and advice on wine and etiquette with friends. She decided to turn that passion into a lifestyle blog for all to enjoy. According to Tierra, a lot of etiquette questions are surrounded around food and entertainment; and Manners and Merlot compiles both subjects.
This pandemic home life has allowed many to try out new cooking recipes and wine pairings. Tierra shares some of her pairing suggestions here:
What wine pairs well with a nice, juicy steak meal?
If I’m having a good steak and grilled veggies, I’d say something like a Cabernet sauvignon. It’s a BIG wine and can stand up to a hearty steak and the smokiness of grilled food.
What is your wine choice with pasta meals?
With pasta, it all depends on whether you’re having a red or white sauce and if that sauce is creamy or not. My most recent pairing was with a homemade ravioli stuffed with lemon, ricotta, and shrimp, and crab. It was a very light pasta and I made a light lemon sauce with it. That paired perfectly with a wine called Sunset White, which was a blend of 50% Traminette, 32% Viognier, 14% Vidal Blanc, 3% Albarino. The wine was light, floral, and crisp. If I am doing a red sauce pasta that is heavier with meat, I am going for a red wine called Amicone. It’s an Italian wine. I find that you can’t go wrong pairing Italian wine with Italian food.
Many will celebrate National White Wine Day in August. “I love a good Traminette. It’s reminiscent of Gewürztraminer, but it typically isn’t sweet. Also, it’s like a Moscato without the sugar. That’s probably a good way to describe it,” states Tierra when referencing her favorite white wine. Tierra encourages all to drink responsibly while enjoying her summer favorites.
