Cherice Williams is the CEO of Blaq Luxury Hair, a female-owned and operated beauty brand based out of Orlando, Florida. Originally from Jamaica, Cherice made an impressive accomplishment as she went from being a struggling waitress to becoming a millionaire CEO! Cherice’s relentless hard work, dedication, and commitment to her end goal is what allowed her to achieve this accomplishment. When the budding visionary took a leap of faith by investing $2,000 in her business, she made her investment back immediately, and has been hustling ever since.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Cherice always wanted to pursue her dreams of becoming a Financial Analyst on Wall Street. In 2018, she began experiencing dry, brittle, damaged hair, and hair loss, later linked to her diagnosis with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Unknowingly, this diagnosis is what sparked the Blaq Luxury Hair brand. As Cherice struggled to find the perfect products for her hair, she began to get frustrated. Nothing was working, everything was backfiring, and Cherice was running out of options. Thanks to her Jamaican roots, she began to understand and value the power of raw and organic ingredients. With some Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Cherice was able to formulate magic in a bottle. With a new product in high demand, word of mouth and a strict savings plan, Blaq Luxury Hair is now a multi-million-dollar company, operating from a 6,000 sq ft warehouse on the outskirts of Orlando, FL. Cherice shared her journey thus far, and share some of her coveted hair tips, and reveal the true ins and outs on being a successful business owner.

Taking a leap of faith is easier said than done. How did you feel when you invested $2,000 for marketing and advertising for your business?

Honestly, I didn’t sleep well that night. That money was supposed to go towards my rent! I was very nervous, but I prayed to God and just wanted to trust the process. Within 48 hours, I made the money I invested back!

You made 7 figures in one year, how did you do it?

Marketing. A major challenge I face to this day is marketing because it is something that is constantly changing. I have to be able to keep up with what is trending and what is interesting to people. I try my best to not only make it an experience for my customers, but also a culture for them. You can’t just post photos on social sites and expect your sales to increase.

Women have different and multiple hair types and textures. What are some tips you can give on keeping your hair healthy?

  • Be mindful of what you are putting in your hair. Read the back label and see what the ingredients are! Please avoid sulfates and silicones.
  • Always wear heat protection if you work in the sun. I know some of you might not realize this but yes, the sun can damage your hair.
  • Choose a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. For my girls that don’t know their hair type, get products formulated for ALL HAIR TYPES. I do have a hair quiz that women can take that is on my website blaqluxuryhair.com.

Healthy hair or long hair and why?

Healthy hair for the win! Did you know your hair can be long and it’s not healthy? Crazy how that works right?! Healthy hair comes from within, which is why what you eat, and intake is so important.

Everyone wants to be a millionaire, right? But what are some harsh truths about being so successful?

It requires GREAT sacrifice! Working, working, working. You must also invest, investments mean risk. In this life, you must take a risk at some point. Remember, competition is always on the rise as well. You must be on top of everything and continue to trend. Once you stop trending and are no longer a trending topic, you become forgotten.

Name one thing that entrepreneurs gain that other people lack.

Being patient, flexible, and resilient. Not giving up so easily and being connected to like-minded people.
