Beloved Bahamian- American actor and first black ‘Best Actor’ Oscar winner has passed away.

Widely known for his iconic roles in “A Raisin in the Sun,” “Uptown Saturday Night,” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” Poitier inspired many of our favorites today. Sidney Poiter indeed left his mark with a groundbreaking 71-year career and several books under his belt.

News of his passing was announced Friday morning by Fred Mitchell, the Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs. The cause of death and funeral arrangements have not been announced.
