It was just revealed that Emmy Award-winning producer, actress, and screenwriter, Lena Waithe has launched a new mentorship class.

The Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab was created in order to connect 25 creatives from marginalized communities with networking opportunities and the resources to propel their own careers.

The 10-month mentorship program includes one-on-one instruction from industry experts, workshops set to enhance ingenuity in generating narratives, and professional development to advance in their skills.

In an exclusive statement to ESSENCE, Waithe shared, “Mentorship has always been important to me. The hope is to populate the industry with people that otherwise wouldn’t have access to it.”

She added, “Our focus will be on craft, how to navigate the industry and how to build community. We’re looking forward to meeting the next generation of storytellers.”

There was a whopping 4,500 applications submitted when the porgram was first announced back in December.

Waithe’s production company, Hillman Grad Productions has also partnered with Indeed in order to fund BIPOC filmmakers.
