Atlanta native, Pastor Calvin Roberson holds many titles in life. As an ordained minister, pastoral counselor, magnetic speaker, acclaimed author, marriage coach, and relationship expert – it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two when it comes to teaching/speaking as well as relationship building. We’ve seen him on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight and together with his wife, Wendy – the two created the marriage coaching organization, Marriage Ain’t For Punks. We wanted to catch up with him in order to discuss the brand new season of the hit show, learn how he juggles his many titles, and much more!

Tell us how you juggle life as a pastor, speaker, author, full-time pastor, marriage coach, and relationship expert.
It’s kind of interesting because I’ve always worked a lot. I started working when I was like 14-years-old. I’ve always believed in using whatever gift God gave me to its fullest. It’s the way I live. I believe that everyone, no matter what their gift is should explore it and use it to its highest degree. It takes time but my wife helps me a lot. My daughter – who is my personal assistant helps me a lot as well. It’s a lot but it’s worth it. When you’re doing what you love, it’s fun.

Can you tell us what we can expect to see in the new season of Married at First Sight.
This is going to be an incredible season. It’s in my hometown of Atlanta, I’m really excited about that. We have five couples that are hungry for marriage and love. I think this is going to be a riveting, exciting season. People are already sending me comments just from the previews. You can expect to see a lot of “ooh’s” and “ahhs.” Good feelings with great love stories. There is a lot of things that will be unexpected as well. I believe this is going to be one of the best seasons we’ve had of Married at First Sight.

What inspired the creation of the marriage coaching organization, Marriage Ain’t For Punks?
Wendy and I really believe in marriage. We’re both second timers that came from completely bad situations. We found that our experience in life and marriage can really be beneficial. We started shortly after we were married. We began talking to couples and it just mushroomed. We were very open and honest about our situation. I had been counseling for about 10 to 15 years prior to marrying my wife, Wendy. Once we got together, it was in the stars. It was an automatic thing. We want to help couples. I tell couples all the time that they have to have a marriage goal. Our goal is to help couples avoid the pain and misery of failure that we experience and to build their relationships. I believe marriage is at the center of our society. Good marriage is made for stable society and families – which makes for stable communities and then a stable country. Once your marriage is intact, you’re pouring into one another, you’re communicating, and understanding each other well, I mean your world is so different. Your job is better, your social life is better, when you’re happy at home, everything seems to work in your favor. We dedicated ourselves into making sure that people can see the positive side of marriage. Yes, it’s tough but it’s so worth it. We want that message out there. It can be beautiful and awesome, but you have to make that choice to do it. I believe that great marriages just start when people are just so pissed off at each other and they are ready to walk out that door, but they choose to stay and work it out. That’s when real marriage begins. That is what we try to tell people. You can make it through any issue if you’re dedicated to it.

What can we expect to see from you in the year 2021?

Forget Coronavirus. I’ve buried it. This year is going to be an incredible year for me and Wendy. Not only will there be more Married at First Sight but in addition, I have a book coming out called, “Marriage Ain’t For Punks.” It will be out later this year; I am so excited about that. There are some other projects that we’re working on. We’re still rolling Married at First Sight so you will see more of us as we travel to different cities. It’s going to be an incredible year.
