Listen. I don’t know who Eric Church is or who decided to pair him with the beautiful, talented Jazmine Sullivan but their rendition of the National Anthem was IT. Eric started it off with smooth country vocals and Jazmine came through with a sultry takeover. I can’t help but think her studded headpiece was a tribute to the late Whitney Houston for her famous 1991 Super Bowl performance.  Either way, she is not to be played with.

We all know H.E.R.’s voice is nothing short of silk on a cloud, but her electric guitar stole the show during her performance of America the Beautiful. Pure talent. And that jacket was fire.

Now on to the main event. I didn’t know how I would feel about The Weeknd performing at halftime. I’m a fan but he didn’t give me high energy Super Bowl vibes. When I hear the Canadian singer and songwriter, the mood is typically good vibes only. But after his performance of Billboard hits like Starboy, Can’t Feel My Face, and Earned it, I was pleasantly surprised. The award-winning artist kept it cute with a little bit of Michael Jackson inspired footwork and left the theatrics to a perfectly distanced choir and a football field of men dressed in red and black suits with surgical masks and bandaged heads.  Good job Abel!
