Kalin Spooner who has been a licensed cosmetologist for over a decade is currently nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Hairstyling for TV or Film. Her work on the CW’s All American earned her the nomination but it was her manifestation of the nomination that turned this into a reality for her.

Spooner recalls telling her styling team that they should submit themselves for the nomination process. Deep down she knew she would get it and she was right. To make matters even more special, this is a first-time nomination category for the awards.

As a hairstylist, she has offered in-home and concierge services since 2001. Currently, she is a major union hairstylist for TV and film but her journey was far from easy. The ‘All American’ hairstylist worked over 30 jobs at Walmart, door-to-door sales as a state employee but never stopped doing hair.

After completing cosmetology school in San Francisco from the Marinello Schools of Beauty in 2013, she received her license and worked at the JC Penny Salon, Ulta salon, and a couple of private salons. She later moved to LA to further her dreams in the beauty industry. Spooner is currently working on her business goals for 2023 which include launching a hair care products line with her business partner, launching an online training program for hair education for professionals, and obtaining an event space.

“I want to be known for helping to empowering people, with my products, as a global humanitarian and a phenomenal businesswoman.” said Spooner.
