Just recently, it was revealed that the trending BET+ series, The Ms. Pat Show would be returning for season two and since then, the world of entertainment has been in a frenzy! Luckily for us, we had the chance to sit down with creator and executive producer, Jordan E. Cooper to discuss the many roles he serves on the show, the renewal of season two, and of course what he has planned for us in the upcoming months.

How does it feel serving as creator, executive producer, and showrunner for BET+’s hit sitcom, The Ms. Pat Show?

It feels amazing! It feels good when something that has lived on your laptop for so long gets the opportunity to be shared with the world. The opportunity to involve other people is also amazing and rewarding in itself. I feel like as a writer, we’re alone in a room but the most exhilarating part of the process for me is getting the chance to involve other people. It was amazing to see it come to life, and even more amazing to see it shared with the world and see their response.

Can you tell us how you felt when you found out the series was renewed for a second season?

I felt amazing! It’s so weird because I felt like I never stopped. It happened so fast. I made final edits before the drop, then two weeks later – they said get ready for season two (laughs). It’s amazing. Streaming is so weird because you can work on something for years and people can binge watch it all in like three hours (laughs). It’s so crazy, but so cool. It felt amazing and there are so many more stories to tell and so many more things to say. I just can’t wait to do it!

How has it been being a creative during this time of COVID-19?

In the beginning it was kind of dry for me. I sat around and watched reruns Law and Order: SVU and Desperate Housewives all day (laughs) but then, I got to a point where I felt the need to be creative. I heard characters talking and stories that needed to be told. I just started writing and the pandemic birthed my short film Mama Got a Cough, starring Danielle Brooks. Ever since then, the ball just kept rolling. I kept having things to do and stories to tell.

What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see from you in the rest of 2021?

Everything that I’m working on involves me working in 2021 so it can be seen in 2022 (laughs). I’ll continue working on The Ms. Pat Show, I have a few film projects in the works, and another series in my head. There is a lot of work that is happening as well as working on my next play. I’m just in the kitchen right now for the rest of 2021 (laughs).
