Ailey has partnered with online platform Google Arts & Culture to preserve and further the pioneering vision of our founder Alvin Ailey. Launching as part of their Performing Arts hub which celebrates Black excellence in the performing arts from dance to music to theater; the online exhibits makes Alvin Ailey’s collections and history more easily accessible to a wider audience.
The collection launches with 75 archival images and 4 digital stories which allow viewers to follow Alvin Ailey’s legacy from his early years in rural Texas to New York, explore how Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison’s has continued Ailey’s legacy, dive into the iconic dance masterpiece Revelations, and discover how the organization has grown to incorporate more ways for all to enjoy live performances, dance training, and public dance classes for community.
