Mattel Inc.’s Barbie brand has joined forces with French luxury fashion house Balmain in an unusual partnership. As a result, Barbie is also entering the world of digital art for the first time. The two corporations are releasing three NFTs of distinctive Barbie and Ken avatars. In addition, a digital and physical art collection comprised of both Barbie-sized Balmain pieces and complete looks from Balmain’s designs will be created for each avatar.

“Together, Barbie and Balmain are creating a new chapter in the legacy of the toy and fashion industries,” says Richard Dickson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mattel. “As a fashion house committed to innovation in unexpected and joyous ways, Balmain, under Olivier Rousteing’s creative direction, is the perfect partner to translate the iconography that is unique to Barbie into a modern iteration of digital art and physical fashion.”
