Based on research, 40% of Black-owned businesses have shut down since the beginning of the pandemic.  Currently, the owner of We Talk Magazine, Tilsa Wright, and the owner of Just Because Salon and natural hair brand called St. Charles, Carol Thomas, are building a business collective located in Brooklyn.  The 2020 pandemic sparked the interest of these two business owners to rally other Black-owned businesses to join their initiative and rally together from a public relations and marketing standpoint to build a self-contained commerce ecosystem, using the hashtag, #2getherwerise.  Industries represented span from media and beauty to fashion.

I saw the benefits of it – it reminded me of a su su.”
