Thank you for having me. I’m Shana Adams, the founder of Adams Grant & Company Financial Solutions. My journey has been shaped by resilience and determination. I grew up facing significant challenges, including a difficult childhood and some legal troubles. But these experiences fueled my drive to succeed. I started in the tax industry over ten years ago, initially as a way to provide for my family. Over time, I developed a deep passion for helping others navigate the complexities of taxes and financial planning. Today, my company is dedicated to empowering individuals and businesses with the knowledge and tools they need to achieve financial stability and success.
What led you to start a career as a tax professional, and can you share a pivotal moment or experience that influenced your choice?
I started my career in taxes during high school, helping family and friends with their returns. However, a pivotal moment came when I was working at Liberty Tax. I assisted a truck driver who was overwhelmed with his taxes and feared he’d owe a large sum. After working through his financials, I saved him thousands of dollars, and the relief on his face was unforgettable. That experience made me realize the profound impact I could have in this field, and it solidified my decision to pursue tax preparation as a career.
As a tax professional, what continues to drive your passion for this field, and how do you stay motivated year after year?
My passion is driven by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in my clients’ lives. Taxes can be stressful and confusing, but being able to provide clarity and relief is incredibly rewarding. Each year, I stay motivated by continuously learning and adapting to new tax laws and strategies, ensuring that I offer the best possible service to my clients. Knowing that my work can help someone save money, reduce stress, or achieve their financial goals keeps me energized and committed.
Who are some of your inspirational role models within the tax industry, and how have they influenced your approach to tax planning and advising?
My biggest inspiration for starting a tax business is my father, Jeremiah Adams. He’s the one who taught me how to do taxes long-form, which sparked my initial interest in tax preparation. I remember one day coming home from school and seeing my daddy sitting at the table doing his taxes. I looked over his shoulder and said, “Daddy, I know how to do that!” He handed me an extra form, and I started working on it, doing the math and everything. He was impressed and said, “Girl, you know what you’re doing. That’s right.”
That moment stuck with me, and it drove me to learn more. I even had him take me to the library so I could pick up some tax forms to practice on. I realized then that I loved real-world math—taxes, budgeting, all of it. I wasn’t too interested in geometry, calculus, or algebra, but when it came to real-world math, I was hooked. My father’s encouragement and those early experiences shaped my approach to tax planning and advising. It’s about more than just numbers; it’s about understanding how those numbers fit into real people’s lives and helping them succeed.
Can you discuss how the tax industry has evolved and changed over the past few decades, including any notable shifts or trends from 10 years ago and 20 years ago?
The tax industry has seen significant changes over the past few decades, especially with the advent of technology. Twenty years ago, tax preparation was largely manual, with tax professionals relying heavily on paper forms and calculators. Ten years ago, we started seeing the rise of digital tax software, which has made filing more efficient but also introduced new challenges in data security. Recently, there’s been a growing trend toward personalized tax planning and the use of AI and data analytics to optimize tax outcomes for individuals and businesses. The focus has shifted from simply filing returns to providing comprehensive financial guidance, which is where my company excels.
If our readers were looking to work with you as a tax professional, what characteristics or traits should they possess?
I serve a diverse client base, but my primary focus is on truck drivers, high earners, and self-employed individuals who need help organizing their finances. I also work extensively with low-income earners, helping them maximize their refunds and plan for the future. The most important trait I look for in clients is a willingness to engage in their financial planning process. Whether they’re seeking to optimize their tax returns, save money, or grow their business, I’m here to guide them through every step.

What’s next for me is continuing to expand my reach and impact. I’m currently working on publishing an ebook that provides tax professionals with strategies for using AI and ChatGPT to enhance their tax preparation process. Additionally, I’m excited to be hosting the Mix, Mingle, and Money Mastermind Weekend event with MoneyBag Tax Solutions. This event will bring together like-minded professionals to share knowledge, network, and grow their businesses.
