If you didn’t get a chance to celebrate National Tequila Day on July 24th, here’s your chance to show out at your next function. In honor of the holiday, Jose Cuervo encouraged people to celebrate by drinking more sustainably. The leading Tequila brand utilized syrups with a longer shelf life and more fruit (juice and rind) in their classic recipes to ensure an upgrade that Tequila lovers will love. What makes the below tips and recipes even better is that they were all created by notable mixologist, Veronica Correa.

Veronica’s Tips

  • Use the whole fruit
  • Grow It Yourself
  • Make it in advance

The Agave Cooler:

o   Ingredients: 2 oz Jose Cuervo® Tradicional® Plata Tequila, 1 oz Lemon Cordial, 3-4 Basil Leaves, 2 oz Ginger beer

o   Glassware: Highball glass

o   Garnish: Basil leaf

o   Directions: Add all the ingredients, except the ginger beer, to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a Highball glass filled with fresh ice. Top with ginger beer.

Sustainability Overview: Lemon Cordial has a longer shelf life than fresh juice and utilizes both the skin & the juice of the lemon, reducing waste two-fold.

El Jardin:

o   Ingredients: 2 oz Jose Cuervo® Tradicional® Plata Tequila, .75 oz Lime juice, .75 oz Carrot Leaf Syrup, 2 slices Cucumber, 3 slices Jalapeño, 1 oz Soda water

o   Glassware: Highball Glass

o   Garnish: Dehydrated Lime Wheel

o   Directions: Muddle the cucumber and jalapeño in a shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients, except the soda water, and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a highball glass filled with crushed ice.

Sustainability Overview: Carrot leaves have a vegetal flavor almost like a cross between carrot and parsley. The syrup has a beautiful bright green color and is a great way to utilize an ingredient that many kitchens and home cooks might otherwise toss.
