How has your story motivated you on days when there seems to be nothing to keep you going?

Setting an example for my children has always motivated me. On days where I have often felt like I had nothing left, setting the example for my children kept me going. Showing them that we as African Americans can also achieve financial freedom was the most important goal.

In what ways, if any, did you have to pivot to ensure your vision was well executed?

It took a lot of time to readjust and realign my strategies and approaches to be a business owner. It was also important for me to remain focused on the goal by making sure that I was aligning all of my actions with intention. Being a mother and business owner, while also maintaining a full time job, there are always sacrifices to be made to make sure that I am putting enough time and effort into each aspect to ensure my goals are being met.

How do you showcase the empowerment of Women’s History Month every day?

Through Making Accounting Accessible, I don’t only offer financial services, I also aim to educate my community to make better financial decisions. I want to be able to help people break generational curses by educating and providing resources for women to understand the options and plan for their futures.

Who are some lesser-known female entrepreneurs from history that you admire and believe deserve more recognition?

While working for Jackson Hewitt in 2011, I had a coworker, Erica, who motivated me everyday. She was actually the person to inspire me to go into business for myself. Erica was my area manager who showed me the ins and outs of the tax preparing business. She was very big on educating and it made me want to be more than just a tax preparer.  She was also very big on employee development, which helped me to become the business owner I am today.

Reflecting on your own experiences, what are some effective ways that male allies have supported you in your career journey

My father was a very motivational person. He passed away in November of 2023. He left with me a few things that I still use in my career today. His hard work and perseverance motivate me to stand strong and remember my principles and morals. My husband also poured into my business by providing resources such as equipment and fees so that I would gave no excuses not to at least try to reach my goals.

How do you strike a balance between ambition and self-care as a woman in a demanding business environment?

Striking a balance between ambition and self-care as a woman requires intensive and mindful prioritization and intentional boundaries. It involves recognizing that while ambition drives professional growth, self-care is essential to sustain performance and wellbeing. I make sure to put aside time for myself once a week, even if it is just an hour to meditate and self reflect, I make sure to incorporate my self-care now.
