How has your story motivated you on days when there seems to be nothing to keep you going?

My life’s narrative unfolds like an extraordinary hero’s journey, reminiscent of the captivating stories and tales we cherished in our youth. Like those stories that kept us on the edge of our seats, wondering how they could end well after such tumultuous beginnings, my journey has been filled with unexpected twists and turns. Yet, despite the uncertainties and challenges, I’ve learned the profound value of patience and perseverance – to never give up on myself or my dreams. I’ve learned that things do work out in the end, and often better than I ever expected,

When life doesn’t unfold according to my expectations, I’ve discovered the importance of trusting in divine timing. Looking back on my experiences, I’ve realized that every setback and detour led me to exactly where I needed to be. While there may not have been a knight in shining armor to rescue me, I’ve found solace in the unwavering presence of God throughout every trial and triumph. I’ve also learned that it’s not just about arriving at a particular destination; it is who you become on the journey.

My life journey and experiences remind me of our resilience and perseverance in adversity. There have been moments when the obstacles seemed insurmountable, yet each challenge I’ve overcome has only fueled my determination to press on. Reflecting on how far I’ve come and the hurdles I’ve conquered empowers me to navigate difficult times with unwavering resolve.  On days when hope flickered low, I whisper to myself: adversity is the canvas upon which I paint my masterpiece with the brush strokes of purpose, focus, resilience, and faith.”

Every setback and victory contributes to unfolding my unique story in the big scheme of things. And just like the heroes of old, I continue to journey forward, guided by faith and an unwavering belief that everything will work out perfectly. Now I have the faith that I need in God, self-efficacy, and the courage I have developed over the years to look dead in the eyes, and instead of saying, “Why me,” I say, “Try me” because adversity introduces a person to their authentic true self – the ultimate expression of divine genius and intelligence given as a gift to this world. I’ve learned that God will never send a giant into your vicinity unless you are a giant slayer!

Women’s History Month transcends mere celebration; it embodies an ongoing commitment to empowerment and advocacy. This commitment extends beyond March as I endeavor daily to uplift and amplify the voices of women in my community and beyond. Through various avenues such as mentorship, empowerment events, humanitarian initiatives promoting gender equality, and highlighting women’s accomplishments in diverse fields, I strive to foster a culture of empowerment year-round.

Who are some lesser-known female entrepreneurs from history that you admire and believe deserve more recognition?

When reflecting on lesser-known female entrepreneurs from history who deserve recognition, several names come to mind, each with a remarkable story of resilience and achievement. One individual who holds a special place in my heart is my mother, Edna Trimm. Her resilience and resourcefulness continue to inspire me daily.

Additionally, figures like Mary Ellen Pleasant, an African American entrepreneur and abolitionist, challenged societal norms to advocate for social justice while amassing wealth. Wangari Maathai, renowned for founding the Green Belt Movement in Kenya, is a beacon for environmental conservation and women’s rights. The contributions of Katherine Johnson, portrayed in the film “Hidden Figures,” underscore the pivotal role of women like her in advancing space exploration.

Reflecting on your own experiences, what are some effective ways that male allies have supported you in your career journey?

Reflecting on my journey, I recognize the invaluable support of male allies in my career progression. Despite growing up without a father figure, I’ve been fortunate to encounter men who have championed my professional growth through mentorship, advocacy for diversity and inclusion, and unwavering support of my achievements.

These allies have opened doors, provided guidance, and celebrated my successes, contributing to my sense of belonging and acceptance in male-dominated industries. Importantly, they have respected my intellect, skills, and contributions based on merit, fostering an environment where I feel empowered to thrive and contribute meaningfully.

One such ally is my husband, Russel Tomlinson, whose unwavering support and belief in my capabilities have been instrumental in my journey. Through their actions and commitment to inclusivity, male allies have supported individual women and contributed to advancing gender equality and diversity in the workplace.

In essence, the stories of these female entrepreneurs and the support of male allies underscore the importance of solidarity and collaboration in driving meaningful change. How do you strike a balance between ambition and self-care as a woman in a demanding business environment?

In navigating the journey toward realizing my vision, the older I get, the more my paradigms and perspectives change. I see the wisdom in cultivating self-mastery as paramount to maintaining balance. Understanding where I end and others begin has provided clarity and perspective, enabling me to navigate relationships and collaborations with authenticity and empathy. This journey of self-discovery has also entailed self-mastery and a deep commitment to personal growth.

Central to this commitment is being as gentle and kind with myself as I am with others. Embracing self-compassion and nurturing my soul and spirit through gratitude, worship, prayer, and meditation have been essential for maintaining balance and inner peace. By prioritizing my relationship with God and putting Him first, I’ve found strength and guidance in facing challenges.

I’ve learned the importance of filling my cup before extending myself to others, allowing them to be refreshed by the overflow of abundance in my life. Establishing clear boundaries has been crucial in preserving my well-being and honoring my priorities. Retiring my superwoman cape has allowed me to embrace vulnerability and authenticity, recognizing that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Amidst the pursuit of my vision, I make it a point to prioritize laughter, dancing, and quality time with family and friends. Taking leisurely walks, traveling, and immersing myself in cultural experiences and culinary delights are sources of joy and inspiration. These moments of exploration and connection rejuvenate my spirit and fuel my creativity.

In addition to cultivating self-awareness and prioritizing personal well-being, another essential aspect of realizing my vision is maintaining a success circle of trust and celebration. Surrounding myself with a supportive network of individuals who believe in my journey and celebrate my successes is invaluable. These individuals provide encouragement and guidance and hold me accountable to my goals and aspirations.

I love to laugh and enjoy life, so nurturing and prioritizing family relationships is fundamental to my fulfillment and balance. Amidst the hustle and bustle of pursuing my vision, I spend dedicated time with loved ones, cherishing moments of togetherness and creating lasting memories. Family is a source of strength, grounding me in times of uncertainty and reminding me of what truly matters.

By prioritizing the maintenance of a success circle of trust and celebration and nurturing family relationships, I create a supportive ecosystem that uplifts me and fuels my journey toward realizing my vision. These connections provide a sense of belonging and purpose, enriching my personal and professional endeavors.

Ultimately, my journey toward realizing my vision is not just about achieving external success; it’s about nurturing my inner world and living a life aligned with my values and purpose. I lay the foundation for meaningful contributions to the world by cultivating self-awareness, practicing self-compassion, and prioritizing holistic well-being.
