How has your story motivated you on days when there seems to be nothing to keep you going?
“My story keeps me motivated. When I look back over my life, I see all the things I’ve made it through. Remembering where I came from keeps me going. I remember when I was a teenage girl with a new baby, losing my mother at the age of 19. I wondered how in the world I was going to do life without my momma with a baby on my hip. Not only did I survive, but I thrived. That part of my life taught me resilience and perseverance. It taught me that I wasn’t built to break, I was built to last.” Which gave me the courage and confidence to help women believe in themselves no matter what they can be, do, and have anything they put their mind to.

In what ways, if any, did you have to pivot to ensure your vision was well executed?
Pivoting is crucial for business growth. Over the last few years, I have had to make several pivots in my business. When your business is service-driven and community-focused, listening to what your community needs is essential. In the middle of the year last year, I cut two of my main programs and launched a monthly membership subscription that my community had asked for. It was scary and different, but many amazing things came from that pivot. I gained many new clients who decided to work with me more closely just from being part of my inner circle membership. I would have never been able to work with them on a more personal level had it not been for me launching that inner circle membership and it gave me some of my time back. So, when you feel like something needs to shift, trust it, ask your people what they need, and adjust your plan. It can lead to things working even better than you ever could have imagined, just like it did for me.

How do you showcase the empowerment of Women’s History Month every day?

I show up for my tribe daily. I lead by example and if I see anyone in my inner circle is not living up to their full potential in my tribe I call them out on it because I believe when they win I win we all win.

Reflecting on your own experiences, what are some effective ways that male allies have supported you in your career journey?

I feel fortunate to have had some exceptional men in my life who have provided me with tremendous support. In my experience, men bring a unique perspective to the business world that has been invaluable to me. I am grateful for my male colleagues who have helped me identify my blind spots and supported me in a structured yet uplifting manner.

How do you strike a balance between ambition and self-care as a woman in a demanding business environment?

“I don’t believe in balance, but I do believe in harmony and prioritizing myself. I make sure to take time for myself to relax and create a schedule that allows me time off. On Mondays, I dedicate time to work on my business as a CEO, rather than just in my business. I outsource my weaknesses so that I can focus on my strengths. Additionally, I have a pleasure plan and taking myself on dates. I schedule time without my phone, whether that means going out to dinner, to the spa, or just spending the day at the beach when the weather is warm. I believe that strong boundaries and effective time management are essential to creating harmony for women in business.
