Black excellence showed up and got it’s deserved attention during this year’s New York Fashion Week festivities. As the line wrapped around the Sixth Floor Loft building, bystanders stopped to ask “Is this a fashion show?” “Everyone is dressed so nice!” What they didn’t know was Fashion Bomb Daily was showcasing their first event that highlighted emerging designers giving them the spotlight to present their collections at New York Fashion Week. How BOMB is that?!

For many guests, models, press attendees and partners, this was their first NYFW (including me). Claire Sulmer’s, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Fashion Bomb Daily, sought to provide opportunities for creatives in fashion to have a seat at the table, but this year it was the runway. For most creatives, fashion week is only a dream. They must deal with the reality of most shows having a private guest list (aka they don’t have the credentials) or the tickets are ridiculously priced to target elite guests. Every so often there are events that are obtainable or even free, but they definitely are broadcasted to the public.

“When I came up it was not as diverse as it was now, obviously….for designers such as Baby Phat and Tracy Reese, African American models were more included. For the other designers, not so much. It was like maybe one, maybe two or none,” Cynthia Bailey remarks during her sit down with Claire at The Bomb Fashion Show.

A plethora of special guests attended the show including host Bevy Smith, model Cynthia Bailey, singer Sevyn Streeter, influencer Jayda Cheaves and so many more! There were also delicious hor d’oeuvres, cocktails by Bombay, and goodie bags filled with Shea Moisture and Kiss beauty products. On top of that, visual artist, Breyona Holt, provided an impromptu photo experience during the event. Breyona, also known as @exquisiteeyestudios on Instagram, is an Atlanta native photographer making her way through the industry with her keen take on angles and lighting. Her latest work features SZA for Cadillac’s newest electric vehicle.

Amazing prints were seen on the runway as well as lots of feather detailing, evening gowns, and saturated colours were spotted.

Designers included in the show were @staciewo_, @shanejustin, @shopoyemwen, @londoncouture.est90, @khangle.vn, @breeoriginaldesigns, and @mahjingwong.

Opening the show can be a demanding task but Oyemwen certainly left a lasting impression with her custom tulle pieces. Then there was Shane Justin who took us back to his couture days, where all designs on the runway were made in just three days! The energy exploded as each model strutted down the runway. In a room full of creatives who were all just happy to be a part of something special, the day was one to remember for sure.
