Influencer and content creator, Candice Jones is on a mission to spread love and wellness on the digital space that spans far beyond social media. As the founder of the platform, Everything She Is Co., Jones is dedicated to helping others learn how to love themselves as they embark on their own self-discovery journeys. I recently had the honor of sitting down with Jones to discuss everything from the inspiration to start Everything She Is Co., how she has been dealing during COVID-19 as a content creator, and much more!

What inspired the creation of Everything She Is Co.?

So, it was a few things. Mainly, my childhood and my own personal journey to womanhood. I realized that there were a lot of tools that weren’t given to me, a lot of things that weren’t said. When I was growing up, my mom was very much about protecting our family, providing, and sacrificing. In that, she didn’t really teach us coping mechanisms or how to handle emotions. She taught us how to be strong and resilient. And while those things are important, they didn’t necessarily prepare me personally in regards to relationships or mental health issues that I was dealing with. When I got back from college, I decided that I wanted to go a different path than what my family wanted me to go down. I wanted to be a gynecologist and that quickly changed as I realized it did not align with my passion. That in itself was rebellion against the idea of who they thought they wanted me to do be and what they wanted my life to look like. That shame and the guilt that came from that really weighed heavily on me. I realized that taking bubble baths and doing skincare routines didn’t really help. It didn’t lift that burden from me. I then started doing research on how to deal with these emotions and how to dig deeper within myself. I wanted to move forward in a more confident way towards the life that I thought was for me. I actually started doing YouTube around that time and that’s how the social media/influencer thing kind of formed. It was through me trying to figure out different ways to have fun and explore different avenues because I knew certain things weren’t for me. I created a platform and it’s for young girls and women to talk about so much. I felt like I wanted to bring that deeper side and the research that I had done to people to help them find themselves and how to own your authentic self. That’s what made me want to create Everything She Is Co. because on one hand, I needed it. I was my first customer, and I was already comfortable with kind of having that sisterhood community on my channel. I wanted to bring that full circle.

How has it been being a content creator/influencer during this time of COVID-19?

I think one of the biggest things for me was realizing that I had to go deeper. We’re not necessarily going out. My channel was mainly centered around natural hairstyles and fashion. A lot of those things are still important, but I feel like the pandemic really made a lot of people really sit down. They had to sit down with themselves and say how am I feeling? It’s not about the hustle and bustle of daily life. You can be on autopilot when you’re in everyday life. I think the pandemic really made us slow down and as a creator, I wanted to dig deeper and bring those more intimate conversations to the digital space. I did more self-care routines and more daily in the life routines for productivity. Those things center around themselves and are less more about beauty.

What advice would you offer to people during this time to keep them motivated as far as creating content?

I would say allow yourself to evolve. I know that as a content creator, I have been more passionate about certain areas at different times. I think continuously allowing those passions to drive your content is super important so that you can stay fresh and stay creative by not boxing yourself in. When you do that, you can start to create content that you don’t really whole-heartedly about. That would be my biggest advice.

What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see from you in the future?

I’m currently working on building my business Everything She Is Co. as an extension of me, how I am, and who I have been to my audience. I’m continuing to build and try to reah different people while hopefully inspiring young women to own their truth and build their confidence and self-esteem. I think that is mainly what my focus us right now, is just spreading that message of healing and being your own hero, while finding the power within yourself.
