Timeekah “Murp” Murphy established her signature label, Alani Taylor in 2016. Her current pieces feature a futuristic kind of look that she showcased at Los Angeles Fashion Week. The one of a kind designer recently had a discussion with SHEEN about her brand, her biggest challenges, and her ultimate goal for Alani Taylor.
When did you first realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
I was in the Army for 12 years and my last duty station was in Fort Hood, Texas. I realized that I wanted to design when I walked in the mall and saw that everybody was wearing the same thing. Being from up north, I had my own style. I started making my own clothes. I would take t-shirts and reconstruct them and people started gravitating to it. I became intrigued by just the art of it and that’s when I realized this is actually something that I love doing.
