What are you most excited for hosting MOGULCON in Nashville Tennessee, for the 8th year in a row?

#1 piece of advice who women who want to follow in your footsteps ?

We’re announcing that the 8th year of MOGULCON [1] will be in Nashville, TN on Nov 2-5, 2023! Yes! The leading conference for women of color in business is coming to the _City of Music_! We’re excited about this new location and hundreds of business influenced women are too

For those who don’t know, who is Dr. Felicia?

Dr. Felicia is a fifth generation entrepreneur. I am a lover of all things Marvel, Star Wars, and DC Comics. A lot of people don’t know that. I’m very committed to the work that I do with small business owners in the community. I’ve been doing this for 30 years.

How did you become a millionaire before the age of 30?

I started my business at 19, so I did a lot in my 20’s. How that happened was really getting super focused, you gotta be sick and tired of your current situation and wanting a change. I’m a fifth generation entrepreneur so that’s all I know is entrepreneurship. Showed up to work one day and they were closing the business. I found myself at a crossroads, so I started my business. I’m a serial entrepreneur. I went from that business at 19, I sold that one before I was 25. Started my real estate company, a finance company, then began to invest in other businesses in logistics and in technology.

Just being open as far as being coachable. I was around a lot of successful people. but a lot of times people have egos and think they know it all. Someone gave me the book Think and Grow Rich when I first entered Georgia State, that book changed my life because what it taught me was the power of community. Sometimes we try to do it all by ourselves, it’s all about me. That’s what will kill your business. What will make your business thrive is when you put the right people around you, and you allow yourself to grow and enhance their lives. I’ve learned that if you put other people first, you’ll get what you want in return.

What is the #1 advice you get for women that want to start their own business?

Have a strategy. We go into business because we are super passionate, or our friends tell us we’re good at something. When we see someone else doing something, we think “you know what, I can do that too. But if you don’t have a strategy behind that, you’re going to be chasing. Chasing money, chasing what you think is an opportunity, only seeing a little bit of success because you have no foundation.

Because we go into business in minority communities out of necessity and not opportunity, we end up chasing the money, instead of allowing the money to come to us. Because we’re in a desperate situation, whether we can make ends meet financially, or we’re not being respected on our jobs. We feel like we’ve had enough, and entrepreneurship now becomes the tool for wealth.

How do you balance life and stress, while being a woman of power?

The first thing I had to learn is that for women like me, there is no such thing as balance. Because no two days are alike. In order to find balance, you gotta be doing the same thing every day, day in and day out. What I do have are boundaries, and I have harmony. Those are the two things I’ve implemented in my life to help me stay on top of my game.

How excited are you to host MOGULCON? And why Nashville, Tennessee for the eighth annual one?

MOGULCON, I’m definitely super excited because it’s our eighth year, and eight is the number of new beginnings. This new beginning kicks off in Nashville next week. Last year, we had a delegation come from Mayor Cooper’s office. They asked me: “Hey, we’d love to have this in Nashville.” I considered it and with their help, we are now having this year’s conference at MOGULCON. We’re doing our first trade show, so this is a very big undertaking.

What we’re expecting is that this will help a lot of the businesses with their sales pipeline going into this new year. That’s where we struggle a lot, because we don’t have the the relationships. We don’t have the resources. What I’m proposing is, let’s get in this room. You got government agencies, you got state representatives and state agencies. You have other businesses who have subcontracting opportunities. I believe there’s going to be quite a bit of revenue, profits, new customers, all coming out of that exhibitor day at MOGULCON.

Anything else you want to let the people know?

They can still register. We’re doing a seven city tour in 2024, so be on the lookout for that. They can find everything at mogulconlive.com.
